The Opportunity

As the Product Scientist for Raman you will be the scientific authority on the areas you work on and will use your expertise to further the success of our products. Working with the Head of Product Science & Solutions and colleagues at WITec, the rest of the Product Science & Solutions team and other key stakeholders, you will primarily support the development of Raman based applications alongside the new and existing products across Oxford Instruments’ product range

About You

The Product Scientist will ideally have the following skills/ attributes:

A PhD involving a significant microanalysis component
Degree in material sciences/physics/chemistry or a related subject to at least MSc standard.
Significant recent experience in using Raman analysis, ideally both standalone and integrated in SEM, for the investigation of real-world samples
An in-depth knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for electron microscopy and microanalysis
Sound knowledge of SEM based micro/nano-analysis including Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) and the ability to appropriately apply this knowledge to customer problems.
Significant practical experience of using Raman analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and associated analytical techniques in a research or commercial environment.
Sound general microanalysis knowledge and ability to apply this appropriately to customer problems
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to clearly articulate complex, technical issues.
Experience in supporting the development of training materials, technical documentation, and sales collateral
Organised, with solid administrative/reporting skills and proficient PC skills including MS Office
This job involves frequent travel and stays overseas. It is therefore essential that the candidate can travel without restriction, subject to any normal visa requirements.
Experience of interacting with and influencing a global team of scientists
A thorough understanding of a diverse range of applications for electron microscopy and experience of turning applications or technology into products
Experience of working in a commercial environment.
Experience working across departments and effectively with sales, marketing and development teams.
Experience in acquiring and presenting scientific data to support product marketing with product promotions.

Key responsibilities for the Product Scientist – Raman

Providing expertise in Raman analysis to the OINA business Collaborate closely with the WITec business with a particular focus on our Raman in-SEM (RISE) product and correlative workflows using multiple imaging/analytical modalities. Create high-quality marketing materials (in collaboration with both NanoAnalysis and WITec colleagues) which demonstrate our capabilities. Use your market knowledge to recommend new and emerging applications for us to focus on. Provide leadership for the Raman technique within OINA, working closely with both internal and external customers.

Working with and understanding our customers Develop your understanding of a wide range of applications through understanding their Jobs To Be Done. Prepare customer samples for analysis, acquire high quality data, and deliver reports containing detailed interpretation of results. Perform customer demonstrations and train customers to an advanced level at OI or customer premises. Organise and conduct customer focused workshops. Gather customer requirements using both formal and informal Voice of Customer processes. Identify unmet customer characterisation needs related either to existing products or to products & techniques that do not form part of our portfolio.

Supporting internal stakeholders across the business Sales, Service & global Applications Assist with exhibitions, workshops, and other events. Provide expert advice to answer customer questions and overcome technical sales objections. Develop strong relationships with our global team and foster a spirit of cooperation. Provide global training in products, techniques, and market segments to an advanced level. Product Management & Marketing Identify potential customers and market segments to target with cross BU marketing campaigns Obtain data to support marketing activities such as brochures, presentations, webinars and application notes Identify potential opportunities for new products and work with product managers to understand their value and introduce them to the development roadmap Work with product managers to develop marketing specifications that speak to customer requirements Test prototype products and assess for usability/suitability New Product Development Provide product, technique, and market segment expertise to development projects Work with project teams to translate user needs into design specifications Acquire experimental data for technology development project to agreed data collection protocols Operations Support operations as required to ensure timely shipping of products to agreed standards.
