Research & Development Technician or Technologist

META is seeking a Research & Development Technician or Technologist for our Photonics Department in Dartmouth, NS. You will play a key role in technology development by conducting hands-on laboratory work to fabricate and evaluate our unique photonic technologies.

What You’ll Do
:



Your role will be to conduct the practical laboratory work that’s essential to developing and perfecting our technologies. In this role, you’ll be working within the Photonics Department as a member of a diverse team of scientists and engineers providing solutions for today’s most exciting new technologies. As an R&D Technician or Technologist your responsibilities will include constructing samples, measuring their properties, and documenting the results. You’ll be using tools like optical spectrometers, microscopes, interferometers, and a range of custom instrumentation. You’ll also be involved in developing, assembling, and testing new tools for our proprietary technologies. In an R&D environment, every day is unique and we’re looking for people who show initiative, are flexible, and possess strong communication and organizational skills.



Some of the typical responsibilities will include:


Hands-on experimental work executing plans devised by the engineering team Preparing and testing samples and analyzing the results Operating advanced custom holography tools, interferometers, spectrometers, microscopes and sample preparation equipment Fabricating and assembling new equipment Performing facility maintenance and upgrades

Minimum qualifications:


Technician or Technologist Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field Three years of relevant industry experience Experience operating complex analytical instruments Proficiency in data collection and analysis

Preferred qualifications:


Certified Engineering Technician (CTech) or Technologist (CET) Experience in optical metrology Experience working in a fast-paced R&D environment
