Assistant Scientist

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pharmacodynamics is looking for a highly motivated early career investigator with research experience in drug development at the rank of as a Non-Tenure-Track Faculty Assistant Scientist.


This junior faculty position will:


Rational design and synthesize new compounds such as proteolysis targeting chimeras (PROTACs), small molecular probes and tool compounds. Optimize lead compounds for drug development Perform a variety of chemical biological and chemo-physical assays such as Fluorescence Polarization (FP), Amplified Luminescent Proximity Homogeneous Assay (ALPHA), Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC), Surface plasma resonance (SPR), and Nano-Bio-luminescence resonance energy transfer (Nano-BRET) Mentor and teach graduate students and undergraduate students. Communicate research progress to colleagues, present research at conferences, and write grant proposals and articles for publication.

The ideal candidate will have an excellent record of publication, experiences in medicinal chemistry, development of assays to measure interactions of small molecules and proteins, proteins and proteins, and proteins / small molecules (such as PROTACs or molecular glues) / proteins, and a keen interest in using an assistant scientist position as a resource to not only strengthen anti-cancer or anti-aging drug development and discovery at the University of Florida, but also launch an independent research career. Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, and creativity are essential. Applicants interested in advancing teaching skills will have that opportunity. In addition to substantial research infrastructure and financial support, the salary for this position will be highly competitive according to the applicant’s qualifications and experience.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: PhD in medicinal chemistry; some postdoctoral experience in drug development


Preferred: PhD in medicinal chemistry; 2 or more years of postdoctoral experience in developing PROTACs and molecular glues for cancer and age-related diseases; and a strong record of publication
