Proteomics & FAIMS Post Doctoral

How will you make an impact?

The Product Management group of the Life Sciences and Mass Spectrometry business unit is offering a unique opportunity for a highly talented individual looking to gain experience and play a role in the design and development of FAIMS technology critical to supporting Thermo Fisher’s position as the leader in mass spectrometry.

The selected candidate will take part in the company’s Industrial Postdoc Program, where he/she will be part of a highly innovative environment and work in an interdisciplinary team together with R&D scientists, application and marketing specialists, as well as external collaborators. The candidate will be responsible for his/her own project, which focuses on method development for mass spectrometry applications.

The candidate will be able to directly contribute to research efforts that aim towards having a real commercial impact while being mentored by experts in the field.

What will you do? Day-to-day operation of LC/MS systems in the lab Method development/optimization for biological applications, for example bottom-up and/or quantitative proteomics, lipidomics and/or small molecules on multiple instrument platforms (Orbitraps, TSQs) Develop QC and system suitability methods to evaluate new technology and hardware Interact with vertical application teams, product management, R&D, product support Evaluate customer needs for current and future technology to define and implement new features Generate data presentations, contribute to posters and/or talks at scientific conferences, generate marketing material
The Program is a one-year assignment with the ability for a second-year extension. This is a premier opportunity to make a significant contribution to the World Leader in Serving Science.

How will you get here?

Education PhD degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline
Experience Experience in mass spectrometry operation, troubleshooting and maintenance Experience in LC (nano and/or high flow)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply knowledge to troubleshoot independently Good communication skills and ability to efficiently present and explain scientific results to internal and external audiences Self-motivated and sense of ownership over projects to bring to successful completion
Preferred Qualifications Hands-on experience with biological mass spectrometry (proteomics), and/or ion mobility Experience working with biological samples and sample preparation Proteomics data analysis
