Research Associate1, Organic Chemistry

GreenLight Biosciences is an integrated life sciences company developing safe and effective products that address critical problems facing plant health, human health, and animal health. Through scientific imagination and determination, we are developing products to create a future with a cleaner environment, healthier people, and a stronger food supply chain. At the core of the company’s rapid growth is a proprietary platform for higher quality RNA production at a lower cost and faster speed than has ever been possible.

The GreenLight team harnesses the principles of equality and diversity to push the boundaries of scientific discovery and to stay focused on making a difference. This works because inclusion is a part of who we are and guides both our business decisions and how we work together. We take pride in our talented teams, our technology, and the solutions we deliver to protect the health of people and to feed our plant. For more information, visit www.greenlightbio.com.

Position summary:

GreenLight Biosciences is looking for an exceptional, highly motivated Entry Level Research Associate to support drug product developmental effort in the space of nucleic acid delivery. The ideal candidate will support mainly activities related to synthesis of new lipids, their purification and characterization (NMR and Mass Spectrometry, etc..) as well as formulation and testing of those lipids in different delivery matrices. The candidate will be part of the formulation team and will work closely with scientists and associates to support project needs. The applicant should enjoy working in a very fast -paced, dynamic, and innovative environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing experiments, analyzing data, and maintaining a high-quality laboratory notebook.

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with a scientist, prepare and characterize novel lipids, peptides, and other novel chemical entities.

Use techniques like Teledyne NextGen 300+, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, Advion Compact Mass Spectrometer, HPLC, etc., to properly characterize and identify those chemical compounds synthesized.

Perform assays aimed to characterize encapsulation and release properties of those newly made entities (including pKa determination, Ribogreen, etc..).

Under the direction of a scientist, execute on DOE and data analysis, to evaluate performance of those novel delivery systems in complex matrices, including but not limited to LNP.

Work in close contact with other team members to run key activities and provide data in a timely manner.

Critically review and analyze data, communicate results, and actively participate in group meetings.

Requirements:

BS or MS in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of 0-1 years of related industry experience.

Demonstrate experience with chemical synthesis. Experience in handling anhydrous chemicals and skilled in setting up chemical reaction under inert atmosphere. Lipid and Peptide synthesis experience is a plus.

Familiar in characterizing the chemical intermediates and new chemical entities using 1H NMR and 13C NMR.

Experience in performing TNS assay to determine the pKa of the lipid as well as formulated lipid nano particles.

Familiar with ChemDraw software for designing schemes and structures.

Familiar with SciFinder/Reaxys/ResearchGate/Google Scholar to help design efficient synthetic routes.

Demonstrates creativity and problems solving skills.

Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
