Director of Applications Development

AMETEK Precitech, Inc., designs and manufactures ultra-precision machining solutions for freeform diamond turning, milling, and grinding, which are used to produce optical lenses, mold inserts, mirrors, and precision mechanical components. Our machining systems produce rotationally symmetric, asymmetric, freeform, and sculpted geometries with form tolerances in the sub-micron range and nanometer surface finishes. Position Overview
The Applications Engineer serves in a strategic technical role responsible for providing on-site applications support and problem solving for unique customer requirements. This position works closely with Field Sales and Engineering to collaborate in the design and development of engineered solutions, often pushing technical limitations resulting in the most critical and cutting-edge solutions advancing the customer’s ability to enhance their product offerings. This position will involve a hands-on approach in the design and making of sample components to prove system capabilities. A high level of engineer-to-engineer synergy with customers often results in unique and custom applications. Additional opportunities exist in providing technical training to both employees and customers, including system prove-out, and occasional travel to shows and customer locations to collaborate and provide technical assistance and support.

Specific Duties
Collaborate with the Sales and Engineering team in support of qualifying potential customer requirements, and recommend by way of proving-out, effective techniques and Precitech systems that will achieve customer satisfaction. Recommendations to include accessories, spare parts, and service to customers as a component of the application support and problem-solving activity.Facilitate customer relations and provide technical demonstrations in support of the selling effort.Participate in technical conferences and collaborate with others within the field of ultra precision engineering.Structure on-site educational and field training opportunities for both customers and company employees.Program and operate Precitech precision machining systems to manufacture sample parts.Develop instructional outlines and training curriculum to ensure consistency in the process and provide for the opportunity to review system features and various safe operating techniques allowing for optimal machining results.Identify opportunities for additional system applications at customer sites.Develop long-term consultative, problem-solving relationships with key customers, based on a thorough understanding of their current and future ultra precision machining Position Requirements:
Essential Skills and Experience

A very high degree of hands-on experience with ultra precision machining systems and applications. Knowledge of optics and/or metrology is a plus.Strong problem solving skills.Superior written and verbal communication skills.Minimum of a Masters degree required, Ph.D. preferred in a technical discipline, with skills in machining or material removal techniques. Additional experience in nano technology, material science, metrology, and general lab techniques.Ability to process and interpret technicial documentation to include prints and CAD filesExperience in various computer software applications and Microsoft applications.Ability to travel 15% of the time globally.
