The researcher will lead the final design stages, assembly and integration of a nano-satellite (CubeSat format) sponsored by NASA. The PATCOOL mission will provide a system to test new thermal isolation coatings developed by NASA. Zenith attitude stabilized and controlled by one reaction wheel and a gravity gradient boom (see also the D3 project developed by the ADAMUS lab).
The ADvanced Autonomous MUltiple Spacecraft laboratory (ADAMUS) specializes in hardware-in-the-loop ground experiments validating spacecraft relative motion guidance, navigation, and control, as well as proximity operations and maneuvers involving contact (on-orbit assembly, servicing, re-fueling). With its six-degrees-of-freedom air-bearing-based spacecraft simulator, the laboratory can reproduce the dynamics of free-flying spacecraft, creating a unique environment to consolidate algorithms to run on future satellites, as well as actual hardware subsystems. The ADAMUS laboratory bridges the gap between computer numerical simulations and actual orbital flight.
The ADAMUS group also designs and develops CubeSats for NASA for different mission goals.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in Aerospace Engineering, proficiency in Thermal Desktop, STK, and Matlab. Strongly desired CubeSat and hands on experience.
