Tennant Company, a technology leader in developing sustainable cleaning solutions, is recruiting for an Electrical Engineer with a strong background in embedded software to serve as a Controls System Test & Reliability Engineer. The successful candidate will participate in the evaluation and assessments of a broad range of innovative product designs that utilizes the latest in technology including the latest in “GREEN” Nano-bubble cleaning technologies, leading edge battery and charger technologies, and fully autonomous vehicles. We are looking for an engineer who is passionate about product testing and reliability enjoys working with a team of talented engineers and is eager to take on big challenges. As part of this team, you will have the ability to contribute significantly to the delivery of our award winning products around the world!
RESPONISIBILITIES:
Partner with design team to develop automated test programs for Tennant’s AMR programs
Support the development of controls reliability and functionality testing systems
Develop test plans, procedures and reports to support verification of Tennant control systems designs
Drive a strong product reliability culture through the use of leading edge accelerated test strategies
Coach and Mentor engineers and technicians regarding controls testing principles
Participate in design reviews for controls systems with design engineering
Contribute to design documentation; including context diagrams and flowcharts
Work with talented team of technicians to execute controls test plans and reports
Evaluate product controls for compliance to regulatory requirements
Work cross-functionally to lead and execute product evaluation programs
Participate in executive level report-outs on performance results
Maximize utilization of HALT, Charger, and Battery Test Assets
Identify, justify, and deploy new test assets to enhance Tennant’s understanding of product performance
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
BS in Electrical or Software Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university; BS requires 15+ years, MS 10-15 years, PHD 5-10 years relevant experience
Software and Controls System Development
CANopen and J1939 buses and frameworks
Embedded software development employing:
C/C++ and structured programming
RTOS systems
Doors or other requirements management tool
Preferred configuration management tools such as Subversion, ClearCase, etc.
PLC programming (Allen Bradly and Automation Direct preferred)
Computer control systems programming (National Instruments LabVIEW preferred)
Embedded control system software validation with an emphasis in firmware
Preferred EMC/EMI testing and troubleshooting
Electric vehicle and automated navigation system design experience highly desirable
Six Sigma Black Belt preferred - Green Belt accepted
Trained on Reliability and Product Life analysis methodologies
REQUIRED SKILLS:
TestStand with LabVIEW driver programming experience
PXI and GPIB based test development
Hands on experience with benchtop test equipment such as DMMs and oscilloscopes
Advanced Windows operating system skills
Database design and implementation for test data
Requirements management, V&V
Proficient Project Manager - Demonstrated ability to deliver projects to timelines, budgets, and target performance
Skilled Leader - Ability to drive a cross-functional and cross-departmental team
Structured problem solver - Ability to drive root cause identification and corrective action leading to timely resolution
Strong ability to multi-task; likely driving multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to debug complex controls Hardware and Software
Ability to critique design details against overall product requirements
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, innovative and dynamic environment
