Web Content Editor - Part-time CEP Consultant

AIChE, founded in 1908, is a professional society of more than 60,000 chemical engineers in 110 countries. Its members work in corporations, universities, and government, using their knowledge of chemical processes to develop safe and useful products for the benefit of society. AIChE fosters and disseminates chemical engineering knowledge, supports the professional and personal growth of its members, and applies the expertise of its members to address societal needs and improve the quality of life. Through its varied programs, AIChE continues to be a focal point for information exchange on the frontiers of chemical engineering research in such areas as energy, sustainability, biological and environmental engineering, nanotechnology, and chemical plant safety and security.


Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP) is the flagship publication and a monthly trade magazine of AIChE. CEP is a monthly trade magazine. Feature articles give widely applicable guidance, “how-to” advice, or an overview of the technology and are written by subject-matter experts. All 60,000 AIChE members have access to the digital flipbook and the CEP mobile app, and the print magazine is mailed to about 19,000 members. The majority of our readers work in industry, while a smaller percentage work in academia. Our audience includes chemical engineers, biological engineers, chemists, and related scientists at all stages of their careers.


Position Summary


The Part-Time Web Content Editor (consultant) will work for 20 hours a week and will closely work with the Production Manager in posting online content for Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP) Magazine - AIChE’s flagship publication. Outstanding people skills are paramount, as well as, be enthusiastic about understanding CEP style and the magazine’s communication needs


Responsibilities


Under the direction of the CEP Editor-in-Chief, the Consultant will achieve the following objectives:


Proof CEP articles in the CEP app (monthly), as well as PDF and HTML versions, and correct any inconsistencies or errors that appear during conversion processes Make edits to the website (copy and images) and app version to correct inconsistencies, or as requested by editors Make relevant suggestions to improve the look and feel of CEP online; interface with the Web Department on troubleshooting tasks and improvements to foster reader engagement Help in setting up and configuring the app and flipbook versions of CEP in the GTXcel online platform while meeting deadlines for publication Troubleshoot any content display issues in the app, flipbook, or online version of CEP Set up author biographies online and post article PDFs where needed Write short web copy for landing pages; identify CEP articles that may be repurposed for the ChEnected blog Improve and optimize CEP webpages for readability and SEO

Skills


Basic understanding of SEO (search engine optimization) and analytics Must be a quick study and able to adapt to a variety of tools

Education & Experience Requirements


Undergraduate degree required Minimum 2-3 years’ experience
