Postdoctoral Research Associate (2 positions)

Job Description

Alabama State University, Center for NanoBiotechnology Research, invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate. Under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, the selected candidate will conduct research on funded projects the areas of Nanobiotechnology, viral and bacterial organisms, write research articles for publication, prepare and present research at national and international meetings, order supplies by generating requisitions, prepare progress reports, obtain data for grant and proposal writing, train undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory, and perform other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:



Set up and perform several immunological assays i.e. PCR, real-time PCR, cell isolation, flow cytometry, cytokine and serum antibody ELISAs, Multiples ELISAs proliferation assays, etc. Compile and enter data, order lab supplies, update lab procedures/protocols Grow bacterial and viral cultures; quantification viral and bacterial loads Cell transfection Nucleic Acids (DNA, RNA, plasmid) extraction and primers designing Cloning, cell cultures real-time PCR, PCR array, multiplex Recombinant protein purification ELISA, Western blotting, Flow cytometry, and data analysis Confocal microscopy, Cellular co-localization analysis Fabrication of biodegradable nanoparticles Vaccine development using nanoparticles Package and mail research samples Handle small animals and cleaning of the animals cages In vivo live animal imaging and data analysis Write proposals and manuscripts Write IACUC, Biosafety, and IRB protocols Oversee and train graduate and undergraduate students in the lab Conduct scientific workshop sessions for students

Minimum Qualifications

An earned Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, prior experience in bacterial and viral research, flow cytometry and data analysis, nanotechnology techniques, working with small animals collecting blood and tissue samples, must have working knowledge of computers to include Endnotes, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Office, and statistical analysis programs such as GraphPad Prism, Sigma Plot, etc., and have excellent cell culture techniques including primary cells and cell lines are required.
