Join our team! Clarivate is seeking motivated and independent Patent Analysts to work with us as independent contractors in support of a contract with the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
Our team has supported the USPTO by providing PCT Chapter I Search and Examination services since 2005 (formerly as Landon IP and CPA Global). As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for performing a comprehensive search and written opinion on the patentability of an array of diverse technologies.
Responsibilities:
On a weekly basis, accept projects with a defined due date based on your availability and the needs of Clarivate.
Demonstrate the ability to read a disclosure quickly and understand the technical nuances which may potentially distinguish it from the prior art.
Perform a comprehensive search to ensure the most relevant prior art is located and provide a logical and complete search history.
Prepare a written opinion applying the most relevant prior art to the disclosure.
Maintain proficiency with commercial patent searching databases and other proprietary databases of technical publications.
Stay abreast of best practices and changes to search procedures via self-directed review of materials provided by Clarivate.
Maintain consistent timeliness and superior quality of deliverables.
Ensure compliance with Clarivate’s Code of Business Ethics and Corporate Conduct
Requirements:
Work Experience or Education required in one of the following areas:
Electrical Engineering and Physical Sciences – Measuring and testing, radiation, optics, semiconductors, nanotechnology, magnetic devices, electrical circuits and circuit analysts, etc.
Computer Science and Information Sciences – Computer architecture, software, network architecture and communication, data processing, IT security, audio/video editing, image processing, etc.
Business Methods – Electronic commerce, financial transactions, electronic gaming, health care management, point of sale systems, etc.
Telecommunications and/or Electrical Communications – Television, radio, telecommunications, GPS, electrical interface devices, wireless communications, optical communications, digital signal processing, etc.
Qualifications:
U.S. citizens or work eligible legal residents who have resided in the U.S. for at least the two previous years.
Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s or PhD a plus)
0-3 years previous patent examining or patent searching experience is strongly preferred, though not required.
In-depth knowledge of technical literature in the area of subject matter expertise.
Extreme attention to detail required.
Highly skilled developing a search methodology and in conducting searches.
Strong time management skills and dependable in completing quality projects against deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
To perform successfully as a contractor, an individual must have the following equipment/tools:
A Computer running Windows Vista, 7, or 8 with the latest service packs and patches – OR – Mac OSX 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8.
A Reliable, High Speed Internet connection: Cellular, Dial-up, or Satellite Connections are not permitted.
