THE ROLE & TEAM
Seer is seeking an nanomaterials and scaffold synthesis scientist to support our Formulations and Nanotechnology team. This role is integral to enabling multiple elements of our proprietary technology.
This role requires general skills in nanomaterials synthesis with an emphasis on polymeric nanoparticle technology. Our dynamic team values a multidisciplinary approach to our efforts. As such, the nanomaterials should support integration into our current platform while looking to support solid phase synthesis, bioconjugate platforms and "smart materials".
The successful candidate is expected to have a background in materials science, nanomaterials and synthetic chemistry. Polymer design, including monomer synthesis, are valued in developing novel scaffolds to support our surface chemistry and small molecule synthesis efforts. The preferred candidate will have an advanced degree in a relevant field of study with 5+ years of industry experience, preferably in the biotechnology space.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Areas of specific responsibility and attention will include the following:
Synthesis of nanoparticles and polymeric nanomaterials Synthesis of monomers and post synthetic modification of monomers Post synthetic modification using an array of methodologies Assist in conducting the design, development, and implementation new synthetic methodologies Oversee the technology transfer and outsourcing of particle characterization assays to third party contract organizations Organize, evaluate, and communicate data in an effective and scientific manner
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate for the position of Senior Scientist must have a demonstrated record of accomplishments in academia or the life sciences industry. The ideal candidate will have had significant experience materials synthesis for applications in biotechnology.
Candidates must bring a strong entrepreneurial orientation along with teamwork skills and an absolute commitment to competing with the highest level of integrity.
Key requirements include:
An advanced degree in materials sciences, or synthetic chemistry, coupled with an understanding of polymer synthesis methodology Experience with polymeric magnetic nanoparticle synthesis is preferred Additional experience in biological sciences is a plus A background in solid phase synthesis methodologies is a plus Familiarity with microgels and porous materials is a plus Familiarity with emulsion based synthetic routes is a plus Knowledge and understanding of laboratory terminology, good documentation, and good laboratory practices Experience working with contract research organizations and outsourcing analytical assays Strong written and oral communications skills, with demonstrated experience in cross-functional and timely communication Strong and collaborative work ethic; must be a self-starter and persistent in achieving objectives to support Seer's scientific and business goals Must work well in a small team setting, with ability to work independently and collaboratively, while meeting scheduled deadlines in a fast-paced environment Highly organized, exceptional attention to detail, and strong proficiency in documentation skills
