Isotope Program Technical Team Leader (Scientist 3)

What You Will Do

The LANL Isotope Program (IP) within C-IIAC is recognized worldwide for their R&D and production of radionuclides for medical and industrial applications. Our program is looking for a Technical Team Leader to provide coordination, guidance and supervision of our diverse activities. Responsibilities taken on by the successful candidate will include: leading a talented team in planning and meeting production/separations/distribution/maintenance/repair schedules; overseeing the technical work in the Hot Cell Facility at TA-48 and the Isotope Production Facility at LANSCE; coordinating activities with the Isotopes Program Manager; responding in real time to changing priorities; maintaining and expanding our agile suite of capabilities; leading the preparation of work control documentation and procedures; and maintaining a rigorous QA program with guidance from the IP QA Officer, including preparing for and responding to audits. The ability to foster trust and respect across a diverse team is critical, as is a commitment to quality research, technical and operational excellence, and professional integrity.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in managing people and work, including meeting milestones and/or developing and following a detailed schedule. Demonstrated experience in safe and secure handling of hazardous and/or radioactive materials, and in management of hazardous operations, including preparation of safety documents and ensuring compliance through direct supervision. Demonstrated experience operating within strict QA/QC and/or program requirements. Knowledge of radiochemical or inorganic separations. Knowledge of project-based financial planning and tracking. Demonstrated success working effectively under pressure with frequent interruptions and changing priorities Demonstrated experience in motivating, building consensus, and resolving conflict within a team. Ability to obtain DOE "Q" clearance required, which usually requires US citizenship A CV and a cover letter that directly addresses the minimum job requirements and desired qualifications must be attached to your application.
Education/Experience: A Masters Degree in the physical sciences (chemistry, physics, biosciences or geoscience) or other related field from an accredited college or university, plus 6 years of relevant experience. A PhD is strongly preferred.

Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in managing R&D projects. Experience in handling positron, beta and gamma-emitting radionuclides. Knowledge of radioisotope production and applications; knowledge of cGMP/FDA guidance. Experience with IWD/RWP/SOPs and work control documentation. Active Q clearance.
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory is responsible for the safety, reliability and performance of the U.S. nuclear stockpile and for a wide variety of national security related research. In addition to its core missions, Los Alamos is world-renowned for research in a wide range of scientific disciplines, including chemistry, materials science, space science, geophysics, energy technologies, experimental, computational and theoretical physics, supercomputing, biosciences, nanotechnologies, and engineering technologies.

C-IIAC's research addresses national needs related to defense, nuclear energy, medical radioisotopes and the bio-economy. Mission thrust areas within the group include actinide chemistry supporting new materials and separation processes, development of the production methods and applications of accelerator-produced radioisotopes, and energy storage/production methods using chemical systems. Key collaborations span a wide range of other LANL organizations, as well as many university, industrial and other National Lab partners.
Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
