Research Scientist, Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine

About the Position:

Considering the nature of our translational research group and the projects that the candidate will work on, the position requires an individual who has demonstrated proficiency in laboratory skills. Candidates should have an interest in clinical research projects to decipher complex biochemical pathways and mechanisms of inhibition. The selected candidate will have excellent organization and prioritization skills. The selected candidate is expected to be open to learning new techniques and working in a highly independent and interdisciplinary environment.

The duration of the appointment is 1 year and subject to renewal, dependent on satisfactory performance and continuation of funding. Incumbents in this position are not eligible to apply for tenure.

Responsibilities:

This research position requires an intersection of protein chemistry, polymer, and conjugation chemistry skills for integrating material sciences into clinical translational research. Responsibilities include protein analysis and quantification, polymer surface functionalization, hydrogel synthesis and characterization, dye protein interaction characterization, quality control, quality improvement, and research and development activities commensurate with a PhD level. Specific tasks include various spectrometry and spectroscopy techniques, immunoblotting/immunoprecipitation, microscopy, and data analysis. Projects will encompass functional studies in cancer, infection disease, and microbiome.

The incumbent will also communicate research progress to colleagues, present research at conferences, and write grant proposals and articles for publication.

Required Qualifications:
MS in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field is required along with research experience in cancer and infectious disease biomarker discovery; Demonstrated expertise in polymerization techniques, nanotechnology, bioconjugation techniques, and mass spectrometry; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Demonstrated skills in organizing, prioritizing, and problem-solving; Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and utilize sound decision-making skills; Experience in handling and purifying biological fluids for proteomic and genomic analysis; Proficiency in the use of personal computers, word processing applications, and spreadsheet applications with demonstrated scientific writing ability.


Preferred Qualifications:
A strong background in statistical analysis is desirable; PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related field is preferred.
