TITLE: Senior Research Technician
REPORTING TO: Dr. Pavimol Angsantikul, Pharmaceutical Development Scientist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Center for Biomedical Research (CBR) is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Senior Research Technician to participate in the pharmaceutical GMP manufacturing and R&D formulation development programs of multipurpose technology (MPT) products aiming to protect against sexually transmitted infections (STI) and unintended pregnancy.
The successful candidate will prepare pharmaceutical products, operate manufacturing and packaging instruments following standard procedures and guidelines. They will also be responsible for other technical duties associated with formulation development projects through performing stability studies, physicochemical and mechanical testing, analyzing data, and compiling results into reports and presentations.
This position is an excellent opportunity to engage in the development of innovative pharmaceutical formulations in the Angsantikul Laboratory for Nanotechnology and Translational Drug Delivery. The Senior Research Technician will also interact closely with researchers in other biomedical laboratories at the Population Council to advance product development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform GMP and R&D formulation work (including fast-dissolving tablets and new technologies)
Manufacture pharmaceutical product from formulation preparation to packaging following GMP standards Operation of manufacturing and characterization equipment used in formulation work, including Millrock Freeze Dryer, blister packaging machine, friability tester, Karl Fisher Titrator, and texture analyzer Manufacturing batch and GMP record writing, printing, and organizing documents Assist in writing and reviewing batch records and SOPs Accurately log and maintain documentation on daily tasks (experimental results, protocols, logbooks, etc.)
2. Communicates potential problems and issues to the supervisor in a timely manner.
3. Analyze experimental results, interpret, and provide input related to subsequent experimental designs
4. Prepare reports and present work at internal and external meetings
5. Provide technical support and training to new lab members
6. Adhere to regulatory and safety laboratory requirements
7. Assist with ordering laboratory supplies as needed.
8. Ensure optimal and proper working conditions of facilities and equipment; coordinate preventative maintenance and repair as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, physical chemistry, or related disciplines required; Master's degree preferred
2. A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a GMP pharmaceutical facility and cleanroom environment
3. Demonstrate technical skills related to the job, e.g., machine set-up and operation, understanding of machine controls/functions, ability to troubleshoot
4. Experience with review of laboratory protocols for compliance to applicable SOPs and regulatory guidelines
5. Intellectual and problem-solving skills to properly articulate issues and provide creative solutions for troubleshooting as needed;, preferred experience with laboratory investigations.
6. Proficient computer skills with utilization of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) required.
7. Excellent organizational skills, detailed oriented, and record-keeping
8. Ability to work individually as well as in a team
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary range between $51,000-$60,000 annually, depending on knowledge, skills and experience. Excellent benefits package includes medical, dental, vision and life insurance available immediately upon hire; 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution equal to 12% of annual salary after one year of employment; generous annual and sick leave; and paid parental leave.
