Position Description:

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Experimental Therapeutics invites applications for twelve-month, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor faculty positions to join the Pharmaceutics program. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics, Engineering Sciences, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry or a related discipline. Relevant postdoctoral experience, previous training or work experience is sought for applicants applying at the Assistant Professor level. A successful candidate is expected to contribute to the professional, graduate and undergraduate teaching programs, to mentor graduate students and post-doctoral scholars, and to establish or have established an externally funded, nationally-recognized research program through securing external research funding and demonstrating an exceptional record of published scholarship.



The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Experimental Therapeutics currently consists of 20 faculty members, and more than 60 graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and visiting scientists who participate in the educational and research programs within the department. The Department is home to three Ph.D. sub-tracks: Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry, and Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary with Pharmaceutics faculty members having broad expertise in biomaterials, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, drug delivery, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics and experimental therapeutics.



The University of Iowa is a major national research university with academic and research programs in the Carver College of Medicine, College of Public Health, College of Engineering, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and College of Dentistry that provide an outstanding environment for successful collaborative research and teaching efforts. The University of Iowa further supports interdisciplinary collaborative research through a number of outstanding research centers and institutes (https://research.uiowa.edu/directory-centers-and-institutes), which includes: Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences, Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, Environmental Health Sciences Research Center, Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center, Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing, Iowa Neuroscience Institute, Cardiovascular Research Center, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Institute and UI Pharmaceuticals, the longest running FDA-approved, university-associated CDMO in the United States. Preferred applicants will have translational or applied research interests in emerging fields of pharmaceutical sciences that may align with one or more of these interdisciplinary research centers or institutes.

Education Requirement:

Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics, Engineering Sciences, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry or a related discipline.





Required Qualifications:

For Assistant Professor, previous postdoctoral research, training, or work experience, a strong publication record, and a clear strategy for securing extramural research funding.





For Associate Professor, demonstrated track record of significant extramural research funding, outstanding record of published scholarship, and record of teaching experience.





Expected or demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.





Desirable Qualifications:

Research interests as it applies to design and formulation of pharmaceutical materials.
