ABOUT THE POSITION: The Chemical & Materials Engineering Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Applicants with an undergraduate educational background in Chemical Engineering who have research interests across the spectrum of chemical engineering, materials, and biotechnology are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants who complement current research thrust areas and who would be able to teach process simulation, process control with an introduction to sustainable technologies. A distinguished academic record, potential for future promise in research, and a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate instruction are desired. The department is highly committed to a diverse faculty and student body. Women and candidates from member groups traditionally under-represented in engineering are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely in advising a diverse population of undergraduate students, to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, to build sustainable government and/or industrial research collaborations, to mentor graduate students in research projects, and to demonstrate a sincere commitment to excellence in teaching at all levels. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline to warrant an appointment.
The Department has approximately 180 undergraduate students and about 10 graduate students. The Department has an ABET accredited undergraduate program, an M.S. program, and a Ph.D. Chemical Engineering option through Mechanical Engineering. It also participates in two interdisciplinary doctoral programs, Materials Science and Biotechnology. Research and teaching programs exist in the areas of catalysis, thermodynamics, sustainable energy, nanotechnology, biomaterials, biomolecular and cellular engineering, and immune-engineering. The department enjoys close collaborations with NASA, Army Redstone Arsenal, Hudson-Alpha Institute, and industrial partners.
APPOINTMENT DATE: The anticipated starting date is for the Fall 2022 semester.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE: The College of Engineering is comprised of five departments and has the
largest enrollment of the university’s five academic colleges. The research focus in the college includes three of several National Academy of Engineering (NAE) grand challenge problems - secure cyberspace, restore and improve urban infrastructure, and engineer tools of scientific discovery.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY: The University of Alabama in Huntsville, classified as a High Research Activity institution, offers academic and research programs in the Colleges of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; Business; Education; Engineering; Nursing; Professional Studies; and Science. It has a total student population of nearly 10k.
