As part of this team, you will play a critical role in our network transformation through building a unified network across all lines of business and maintaining the technology that keeps millions of our customers connected.
You will provide advance-tiered support when joining our Cloud Platform System Operations team. You will help maintain and advance our OpenStack environment. This includes collaborating with tenants and peer support teams and participating in feedback loops with upstream resources that will shape the company direction. While embracing new technologies in an evolving culture, you will support our cloud strategies.
Providing advanced support for our cloud platform, and being responsible for the OpenStack environment, back end storage and underlying network infrastructure. Communicating with cloud tenants and external customers. Troubleshooting failures and productivity impacting events. Integrating tenants onto the OpenStack platform. Patching, updating and upgrading both hardware and software resources. Coordinating the installation of network equipment, power, transport, and services necessary to support new installations and growth of all aspects of Verizon Cloud Platform Core and Lite architectures. Hardware elements include, but are not limited to: compute, network, storage, transport, security, monitoring Providing equipment engineering support for the above platforms and services including: Cabling diagrams, configuration and diversity drawings, cross connect information, IP addresses, network connectivity, coordination of MOP approvals, filing of appropriate tickets such as; Kirke Change Requests, NSS, AYS, ePM, HSS, MASTARS Performing project management responsibilities and lead the build, installation, HW State0, test/acceptance, signoff, and cutover of equipment with VCP teams (LoneStar Integration, Deployment, SysOP’s, SiteOP’s, Solution Architecture), Planning, Maintenance Engineering, Transport, Provisioning, and other organizations. Serving as the main point of contact for VCP Organization regarding the growth and new installations of Verizon Cloud (Core and Lite) platforms across a global footprint. Build and maintain relationships and positive rapport with various planning, engineering, and operations teams to facilitate implementation of projects transparent to the network. Providing direction to multiple vendors. Work with internal Verizon teams to develop and complete design, sizing, and call flow models to ensure platforms being installed will meet performance and capacity requirements. Effectively managing vendors and consultants. Work with vendors to obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, and ensure their products and services meet Verizon’s requirements and standards. Push back on vendors when warranted if their products and/or services fail to meet Verizon expectations. Proactively managing the capital and expense budgets by working collaboratively across internal VCP teams to ensure the value of the products and services received are in line with vendor pricing. Working closely the Purchasing team to submit PO requests and ensure PO’s are in compliance with company procurement policies, good and services are rendered in a timely manner, good receipts are executed and that invoices are paid on time. Executing break fix repair of hardware and network cabling issues across a global VCP footprint Working closely with VCP teams, OA&M, SysOP’s, and SiteOP’s to monitor network parameters of cloud platform. Size systems appropriately and prioritize work based on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Recommending alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures. Have a flexible work schedule and perform night work during maintenance windows, as required.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or relevant discipline or four or more years of work experience. Four or more years of relevant work experience.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
A degree. Five or more years of telecommunications and network engineering experience. Ability to work independently, resolve issues/conflicts and make decisions based on sound business practice. Experience with Cloud computing architectures and associated normal accepted installation practices within legacy Verizon Wireless NEC’s, IT Data Centers as well as Verizon Datacenters. Project management experience, with strong leadership skills and ability to drive teams to consensus. Working knowledge of MAC OS. Ability to learn new technology quickly and apply new found knowledge on new projects. Strong interpersonal, (oral & written) communications skills, for internal and external communication, at a range of technical levels. Highly productive and pay close attention to detail. Good record keeping skills. Ability to logically/methodically approach to troubleshooting hardware issues. Knowledge of Network OSI model, in particular layer 1, 2, & 3 Familiarity with engineering and engineering economic principles. Knowledge of databases, Excel, web-based applications, and software tool packages. Linux Administration certifications I and II, or equivalent proficiencies. Network certifications CCNA, CCP, or equivalent proficiencies. Proficiency in system administration, network administration, and the virtualization disciplines of both subjects. Experience with distributed storage solutions such as iSCSl, Ceph, and Swift. Experience with Linux systems administration, preferably in a virtualized environment. Experience with networking concepts and protocols, including SDN and NFV. Experience deploying and supporting various distributions of OpenStack such as RedHat and Canonical.
