Principal Scientist, Biomolecular Interactions

Position Overview:

At Sanofi, we are committed to be a world-class biologics research organization and are steadfast in our goal to bring next-generation, transformative therapies to patients. Sanofi’s Large Molecule Research (LMR) organization consists of over 550 scientists working to discover and engineer therapeutic modalities such as antibodies, nanobodies, and synthorins. LMR biologic platforms enable and partner closely with Sanofi’s therapeutic areas (Immunology & Inflammation, Immuno-Oncology, Rare & Neurologic Diseases) to discover and ultimately deliver new therapeutic modalities.

To continue to advance Sanofi’s biologic platforms, the Antibody Discovery group in the USA is seeking an experienced and self-driven protein scientist to lead and execute protein interaction analysis. As part of a well-supported and integrated Antibody Discovery group, the individual will characterize protein interactions using standard and high-throughput methods during candidate selection. The candidate will be responsible for advancing laboratory activities and will work collaboratively in a matrix team environment.

Responsibilities:

Design and lead experimental work aimed at candidate selection based on binding kinetics and epitope binning during antibody discovery campaigns using a variety of bioanalytical methods (e.g., Surface Plasmon Resonance, Biolayer Interferometry).

Design and lead experimental work aimed at candidate selection based on various protein and cell-based interaction assays to identify leads with drug-like properties.

Design and lead HTP antibody-antigen interaction and characterization methods compatible with crude antibody preparation from culture media and purified samples.

Develop and establish cell-based reporter and other functional assays to screen and characterize antigen specific antibodies from discovery campaigns.

Interact productively with scientifically diverse research teams, including clear and concise presentation of data through oral presentations and written reports/communications.

Actively seeks to incorporate new technologies into the protein interaction workflow during antibody selection by establishing technology alliances with academic and industry partners.

Requirements:

The position requires a background in Biophysics, Biochemistry, or related disciplines with a Ph.D. and five or more years of professional experience, or a master's degree with ten years or greater of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology research environment.

Knowledge of HTP and standard methods used to study protein interactions and hands-on experience with the operation of diverse instrumentations used to study protein interactions (e.g., Octet, BIAcore, Carterra). Experience with next-generation bioanalytical instruments that use digital nanotechnology-based biosensors to study protein interaction is a plus.

Demonstrated ability to interpret protein binding data.

Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate and present binding data to cross-functional project teams.

Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems related to protein-protein interactions, especially in the context of antibody-antigen complexes. Experience with ternary and quaternary complexes is a plus.

Knowledge and hands-on experience with software for protein interaction data processing, analysis, and visualization is a must.

Must be highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, well organized, and ambitious to build and lead a small team of scientists with protein interactions responsibilities.

Experience in various cell based immunological assays and proven record of designing and establishing in-vitro based functional screening systems.

Strong track records of publications and presentations at meetings is a must.
