School of Engineering, Stanford Nanofabrication Facility
Stanford Engineering has been at the forefront of innovation for nearly a century, creating pivotal technologies that have transformed the worlds of information technology, communications, health care, energy, business and beyond. Our faculty and students are creative risk-takers who pursue excellence across a breadth of disciplines. Our alumni include some of the world's most successful leaders in technology and business. Our staff are critical to enabling Stanford Engineering to accomplish its mission: seeking solutions to some of the world's most urgent challenges and educating leaders who will make the world a better place through the power of engineering principles, techniques and systems.
Part of NSF’s NNCI Program (National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure), nano@stanford is comprised of four lab facilities which together provide world-leading instrumentation and expertise in nanoscale science and engineering to researchers at Stanford and beyond - from academic, industrial, and government labs across the US and around the globe. Last year, over 1300 researchers, in applications ranging from medicine and biology to fundamental physics and astronomy, made use of our shared experimental nano- facilities. More than a set of labs, it is a vibrant research community.
We seek an energetic, experienced Process Engineering Program Manager to make an impact on Stanford’s shared experimental facilities and beyond, by devising innovative and integrative approaches to experimental research and education, and by administering the programs to deploy them. This position will have primary appointment as a Senior R&D Process Integration Engineer in the Stanford Nanofabrication Facility (SNF), one of the nano@stanford facilities, with a joint appointment as Associate Director of the nano@stanford program. The responsibility of this position is to manage the hands-on, user experience of researchers at SNF and beyond. This is not research, but enables research by creating a knowledge platform and using program opportunities to deploy know-how.
As a successful candidate, you have a strong technical understanding of the design, fabrication, characterization and simulation of devices in a research setting. You have strong written and oral communication skills and enjoy conveying your work with others. You have a passion for teaching, from grade school to graduate students, and are a life-long learner yourself. You are a hands-on team leader and community builder. You are proactive, resourceful, and relish bringing people together to find solutions to complex problems. And you are inspired by our mission: cultivating a vibrant, diverse, “maker” community – not only at Stanford, but far beyond – who strive to understand the world and make it a better place.
In this role, you will:
Lead process integration projects that will form a technology platform to support our researchers, our growing hands-on, experimental laboratory curriculum, and on-line/on-demand education and training library. Collaborate with faculty and technical staff to identify, prioritize, and define projects. Direct and work hands-on with staff to execute projects and deploy know-how.
Develop an experimental laboratory for a hands-on, chip-making course aimed at undergraduate-level students, collaborating with faculty, staff and graduate students to cover everything from layout, fabrication, testing, and system building.
Develop strategic plans for nano@stanford to engage and grow the experimental lab community at Stanford and across the Network. Execute on NNCI program tasks and facilitate NNCI coordination activities with other sites, under the oversight of the nano@stanford faculty Director. Support and cultivate initiatives for education and workforce development, ethics and outreach. Manage program communications, including online presence and content development of the nano@stanford site.
Serve as liaison between NNCI and local programs, identifying synergistic opportunities in Stanford’s laboratory ecosystem and the national mission of NNCI.
Oversee NNCI award administration, ensuring compliance with institutional and NSF requirements. Coordinate meetings of stakeholders to refine program goals and metrics. Track progress and manage reporting on all aspects of the award. Represent nano@stanford in conferences and meetings.
