We thrive on finding and cultivating talented people who are passionate about what they do. Join us and be a part of the diverse Caltech community.
Job Summary
Caltech scientists are now embarking upon a major project to develop nanotechnology that will enable deep profiling of the single-cell proteome and metabolome. This work is being pursued in close collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific. To enable this effort, a cohort of scientists/engineers will be hired to work at Caltech (Pasadena, CA, USA) in complementary areas spanning proteomics and single-cell analysis, nanosystems development and fabrication, high frequency/microwave engineering, optics and integrated photonics, software-defined instrumentation, and bioinformatics enabled by AI/machine learning. This job posting is part of the effort to assemble this project.
This job posting solicits applicants for a technician position that will involve all aspects novel micro-/nano-scale device fabrication. This work will merge MEMS/NEMS technology, micro-/nano-electronics, integrated photonics, and microfluidics. The technician will interact daily with the engineering team and initially collaborate to develop prototype devices. The work involves patterning insulating, semiconducting, and metallic materials - and then to refine fabrication protocols and process flows to enhance device quality and yield. Initial prototyping will be carried out within the nanofabrication facilities of Caltech's Kavli Nanoscience Institute (KNI). Subsequently, successful candidates will have the opportunity take part in commercialization of optimized devices, transitioning prototype devices to large-scale production in close collaboration with the team's microelectronic foundry partners.
Job Duties
The successful candidate's job tasks will comprise a complete spectrum of micro- and nano-fabrication tasks within Caltech's KNI fabrication laboratories, which comprise a state-of-the-art cleanroom facility. In collaboration with senior fabrication engineers and the management team: Create fabrication recipes, devise engineering splits, carry out measurements/metrology on prototype devices, and develop specialty processing for new processes and devices. This will involve the following:
Learn and adhere to established "standard operating protocols".
Carry out detailed written or oral instructions provided by the senior engineering and management team.
Process test runs and conduct test for engineering to identify yield problems or test new processes.
Provide full and detailed documentation of all processing steps.
Conduct processing experiments on devices to prove or improve engineering design.
Conduct tests on devices/wafers by applying advanced techniques and criteria to obtain data required for process studies.
Recover wafers from tool aborts across all equipment types including: Deposition, Etch, and Wet Etch.
Assist in training and qualifying new production personnel.
Basic Qualifications
High school diploma or Associate degree.
One or more years of technical experience in the semiconductor industry.
Working knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing tools.
Basic knowledge of semiconductor wafer processing.
Preferred Qualifications
Significant experience in a wide variety of micro/nano fabrication methods.
