What You Will Do

The Los Alamos National Laboratory, Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) is seeking an undergraduate candidate in the administrative and business operations fields, including finance/budget, human resources, business administration, and project management. This position requires a motivated, dynamic, reliable, and organized performer who is capable of quickly adapting to strict deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing priorities and demonstrates initiative. Ability to work effectively in a team environment with all levels of internal and external personnel. The successful candidate will provide administrative assistance to CINT's research staff (scientists, postdocs, and students), our management team, and our administrative staff.

The internship will provide an opportunity to develop marketable skills in the areas of office procedures, interpersonal relations, office technology, office accounting, written communication, and computer applications to meet the demands and responsibilities of today's workforce. It will also provide an opportunity to learn a wide variety of office-related administrative and business operations skills and capabilities including but not limited to:
Administrative functions and office management.


Calendar management for staff and organizational resources.


Task tracking and prioritization.


Records management.

Spreadsheet and database administration.

Official document preparation with attention to detail (grammar, formatting, etc.).

MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).

Lab-wide business software applications (e.g., travel, procurement, Oracle Time and Labor (OTL), policies).
Education/Experience: Applicant must be enrolled in an undergraduate program in Office Administration or Business Administration or related field with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, year-round
Basic and/or introductory knowledge of and experience in providing administrative services and activities.


Basic and/or introductory knowledge of and experience with office-interfacing software packages.


Basic skills in the preparation and formatting of correspondence, reports, and/or presentations.

Excellent oral and written skills, including proofreading, grammar, spelling, punctuation, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to effectively work in a team environment and interact with all levels of internal and external personnel, including the ability to build productive internal relationships.

Ability to organize and follow-through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing priorities.


Create, print, and post posters (from pre-existing templates).
Webpage maintenance

Video conferencing knowledge


Ability to carry out job responsibilities with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative, tact, and discretion with in confidence and sensitive information/matters.


Dedication to open and courteous communications and interactions.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
