Job Title: Electronics Engineer


Location: Malvern, UK


The role of the Global Sustaining team is to support our growth ambitions and deliver on our quality breakthrough targets as set out in our strategy. Using specialist engineering knowledge, our engineers make sure our products perform at the highest standard from the day they are launched to the day they are retired.


The knowledge, attention to detail and professional skill of our engineers is at the core of our high-quality commitment to our customers. As an Electronics Engineer within the Sustaining Team, you will be responsible engineering activities related to sustaining the quality, cost, and supply of the electronic design within Malvern Panalytical products. You will work together with other team members to build a supportive team culture, drive results, and achieve excellence in everything we do.


What are your responsibilities?


Define and develop best engineering practice


Using Best Practise tools (DfSS and Design for X), diagnose any quality issues in Production or in the field and complete electronic design updates on Sustaining products. Being responsible for managing own investigations (such as 8Ds and ECNs) and liaising cross-functionally to ensure the project progresses. Being capable of designing and building prototypes to validate a change and mitigate any risks. Working with R&D in the deployment phase of the product lifecycle framework to support the knowledge transfer of products moving into the Sustaining team post launch. Supporting the Manufacturing Engineering or Customer Support department in the collection of failure data to confirm the presence of issues in production or in the field. Support the removal of technical debt in our electronic design packs. Validating and updating any electronic design updates with suitable replacement components for the removal of obsolete components.

What do you need to be successful in this role?


Must have completed an apprenticeship, HNC, HND or degree, in the relevant areas Preferably a minimum of 1 years’ experience working with scientific instruments or multi-disciplinary technologies. Professional ECAD experience (Altium Designer preferred). Good theoretical and practical experience and knowledge, and proven troubleshooting skills.

Appreciative understanding of source and drawing revision control and use of PLM systems in this endeavour. Engineering change control documentation experience preferable. SPICE simulation experience is preferable. Appreciative understanding of PCBA manufacturing and testing techniques. Experience working with embedded devices such as microcontrollers, FPGAs and SoCs, and the associated development processes and tools. Experience working with low noise signal chain designs and data acquisition systems. Appreciative understanding of EMC and safety standards. Project planning experience is beneficial. Familiar with and can use relevant standards to support product compliance and design best practise. Familiarity with enterprise software systems e.g., SAP, SharePoint, Office 365. Ability to present complex arguments simply, both written and orally. Experience in writing of technical reports. Soft skills to collaborate with other departments and build successful working relationships with colleagues. Experience of working in a role involving significant Operations and Service interaction would be beneficial, including engineering change control (ECN) processes, customer feedback (CFB), and experience of Lean manufacturing techniques (SPC).
