Applications are invited for two postdoctoral positions in the laboratory of Prof. Subhasis Ghoshal at the Department of Civil Engineering at McGill University to conduct research on the development of nanocarriers for agrochemicals and investigation of their uptake and translocation mechanisms in plants. The applications of this research is in improving agricultural crop yields and reducing soil and groundwater pollution.
The positions are available immediately. Review of applications will continue until the positions are filled. The preferred start date is April 2022, but there is some flexibility. The initial appointment will be for one year with possibility for extension for an additional year. Candidates should have completed their Ph.D. no more than 3 years prior to the date of joining.
Successful candidates will have an outstanding record of scholarship and doctoral/postdoctoral research related to the areas of research described below. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Candidates will be expected to assist in the training of graduate and undergraduate students, and preparation of research proposals and journal papers. Candidates should be able to work independently and as part of a team with collaborators on interdisciplinary projects. Candidates should be able to travel to labs of collaborators in Denmark/Europe on a frequent basis. A Ph.D. in environmental, materials, chemical engineering, chemistry, biology or a relevant field is required.
Position 1: Nanomaterials Characterization
The position involves research on characterization of nanomaterials and their transformations in plant tissues. Hands on experience in using Time-of-flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry or X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is required. Experience with characterization of nanomaterials in plant matrices, and with electron microscopy is desirable.
Position 2: Functional Nanomaterials Synthesis and Application
The position involves research on rational design of nanocarriers for agrochemicals. Relevant research experience related to synthesis and applications of nanomaterials that can acts as stimuli-responsive nanocarriers for functional molecules, is required. Prior experience in nanotechnology-enabled agriculture is desirable.
Applications should include:
(i) A cover letter detailing the candidate’s experience and knowledge relevant to the position (please identify Position 1 or 2);
(ii) a detailed curriculum vitae with list of publications;
(iii) copies of two most relevant publications;
(iv) contact information for two references.
Applications should be sent to [email protected]
