Job Duties
Produce, characterize, and evaluate agricultural waste-derived bioenergy, bioproducts, and biochar Produce, characterize, and evaluate agricultural waste-derived biomaterial for enhancing biofuel production, biological processes and bioremediation Engineer biochar/biocarbon for environmental, energy and agricultural sustainability Produce biofuel, bioproducts and biochar/biocarbon from agricultural waste Produce and determine applications of biochar, nanomaterial and biomaterial for environmental remediation, water treatment, energy production, and agriculture Bioremediation/phytoremediation Analyzation of nutrients, antibiotics and microbial pathogens from soil, water and plant Ability to use and determine molecular techniques including qPCR and 16S microbial community analysis
Minimum Requirements
Education - Ph.D. or ability to obtain a Ph.D. prior to start date in one of the following disciplines: environmental engineering, chemical engineering, biological engineering, agricultural engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, or molecular biology Ability to use instruments (LC/MS, HPLC, GC, ICP, IC, XRD, SEM/EDX, XPS) Experience with production of biofuels, bioproducts and biochar from wastewater and/or waste Has conducted environmental remediation, bioremediation, and waste/wastewater treatment Ability to produce statistical analysis and experiment designs
Additional Requirements
Excellent analytical skills using various instruments Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to establish effective working relationships
Preferred experience includes (but, not limited to)
Analytical instruments (i.e., LC/MS, HPLC, GC, ICP, IC, XRD, SEM/EDX, XPS) Analysis of nutrients, antibiotics and microbial pathogens from soil, water, and plant Molecular techniques including qPCR and 16S microbial community analysis Statistical analysis and design of experiment Publication in the relevant research areas
Required Education
Ph.D. in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, biological engineering, agricultural engineering, soil and crop science, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology or other relevant disciplines.
