Applied R&D Scientist in Drilling Technologies (656202)

Basic Function


Conduct research towards the development of applied technologies for well construction. Make significant contributions to the ideation and development of novel technologies and/or products applicable to oil & gas drilling and cementing field challenges. Research may include the use of nanomaterials, polymers, surfactants, and the development of new formulations and processes.


Duties & Responsibilities


Initiate innovative projects with recognized high business impact to Aramco drilling The candidate should understand modern analytical techniques for the characterization of materials and systems Test drilling and cementing fluids under high pressure and temperature conditions Capture intellectual property relevant to drilling technologies Prepare and deliver high impact technical papers within peer-reviewed journals Familiarity with the different phases of well construction including understanding of fluid rheology, basic rock mechanics and zonal isolation Participate/contribute to professional societies, and technical groups Be a team player working with people who have a wide range of skill sets and disciplines Demonstrate a strong commitment to maintain high quality occupational health, safety, & environment (HSE) rules and regulations Perform other duties as assigned based on education & experience The individual may have a background utilizing chemical synthesis

Education and Experience


B.S. Degree in Chemistry/Materials/Engineering; PhD is highly preferred Familiarity with laboratory evaluation methods is preferred: Fluid rheology (low and high pressure/high temperature), Mechanical properties of solids (For example: Compressive and tensile strength, Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio) Experiences with testing and development of drilling and cementing fluids is favored Nine (9) years’ experience in an industrial environment, technological or academic laboratory area relevant to the job Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined Candidate should be comfortable in working independently or part of a project team The candidate will be expected to give project presentations for review and challenge International travel maybe required to meetings at conferences and universities Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
