ABOUT THE TEAM
We're a group of high achievers dedicated to making this world a better place. We have created a supportive, collaborative environment to encourage disparate ideas to solve problems. We want team members to grow beyond their expertise and support someone going the extra mile and giving it their all.
ABOUT THE ROLE
To achieve our goals, we need someone independent and outgoing while embracing our constantly evolving startup environment.
Advano is seeking a talented and experienced battery material scientist to join our expanding team in New Orleans. The successful candidate will be working on the development of silicon/carbon anode technology. This role will focus on designing and developing primary nanoparticles and secondary particles with controlled morphologies. Independent design and execution of experiments, data analysis, and collaboration with the Advano team will be important. Applicants should expect to be closely involved in patent filings. The candidate should have experience in materials design and characterization and ideally have lithium-ion battery materials experience. Our ideal candidate is an action taker, a straightforward thinker who pays attention to detail. We are looking for someone who can mesh with the scientists and engineers on Advano's R&D, Materials Engineering, and Battery teams while working collaboratively with team managers across the company.
Responsibilities:
Design and characterization of primary and secondary silicon particles with controlled morphology for application in lithium-ion batteries. Bench-scale materials production, via ball milling, spray drying and pyrolysis.Collaborate on materials development with external vendors and potential customers.Review of IP and technical landscape to mine new ideas and understand how Advano technology fits within the broader landscape.Development and execution of relevant materials characterization techniquesUnderstanding of mechanisms that illustrate structure-property-performance relationship. Use electrochemical measurements, such as cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and other common methods to elucidate performance.Use DOE to optimize learning from material design and processing strategies.Draft work instructions, test methods, and technical reportsGenerate of presentations and communicate results in regular internal meetings.Collaborate with a cross-functional team to refine formulations and product scale-up.Support of ongoing intellectual property efforts
Qualification Requirements:
5+ years of materials processing experience in industry with a PhD degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering/Science is preferred. Alternatively, 8+ years of materials processing experience in industry with a BS or MS degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering/Science, but all other engineering and related degrees will be considered.Prior experience with materials chemistry/physics, polymer chemistry, and material characterization (rheology, microscopy, spectroscopy, mechanical testing)Knowledge of nanomaterial synthesis processes focused towards high-performance LiBsExperience with electrochemical measurements, such as cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and other common methodsProven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize assignments, and adapt in a fast-paced, small-company environment.Excellent communication, organization, and technical writing skills
