ASSISTANT / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN CLIMATE CHANGE AND PUBLIC HEALTH

Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor: The Department of Environmental Health Sciences ( ENHS ) http://www.sph.sc.edu/enhs/ in the Arnold School of Public Health ( ASPH ) at the University of South Carolina (UofSC) invites applications for a tenure-track professorship at the assistant or associate levels in the area of Climate Change and Public Health. The Department of ENHS includes two research centers including the Center for Environmental Nanoscience and Risk and the NIEHS Center for Oceans and Human Health ( OHH ) and Climate Change Research , one of four national NIH / NSF OHH Centers. The Department has a long tradition in experimental environmental health research and currently enjoys significant support from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control, and other federal and state agencies. We are seeking to build research and teaching strengths in climate change science with particular attention to threats to public health.

We seek applicants with research interests/expertise in climate change effects on ecosystem and human health (included, but are not limited to, climate relationships to environmental toxicology, natural disasters, harmful algal blooms and microbes, air quality, water quality, water and food availability, etc.) and teaching interests/expertise in the area of environmental health with a focus on climate change impacts on human, public and ecological health (e.g., computational, experimental or field-based approaches to climate change science as it relates to health effects ranging from molecular to ecosystem to societal level responses to environmental exposures/perturbations). The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to integrate multiple types of data, develop statistical and/or predictive climate-related models, and complement our existing departmental strengths in environmental microbiology, toxicology, nanomaterial sciences, ecosystem forecasting, environmental justice, and community engagement. In addition to establishing an innovative, externally funded research program, the successful candidate is expected to develop specialty graduate/undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. The individual will be expected to work independently but collaboratively and develop their own unique line of competitively funded research. The ASPH has six departments with a federally funded research portfolio of > $43M in 2021. The UofSC has six health sciences colleges working collaboratively within a comprehensive Health Sciences Division. The ASPH consistently leads this division in federal funding and scholarly production.

The position begins August 16, 2022 with a competitive compensation and benefits package.

Required Education and Experience
Applicants must have a PhD in an environmental health sciences-related field plus at least 12months of postdoctoral experience by the start date of employment for the rank of Assistant Professor (or at least 4 years of postdoctoral experience by the start date of employment for the rank of Associate Professor). Evidence of existing or future success in external funding and impactful research scholarship is essential.

Preferred Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD in an environmental health sciences-related field plus at least 12months of postdoctoral experience by the start date of employment for the rank of Assistant Professor (or at least 4 years of postdoctoral experience by the start date of employment for the rank of Associate Professor).
