The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching organic chemistry at the introductory and advanced levels for undergraduate students and advanced organic chemistry for graduate students, and may have the opportunity to develop upper-level courses in his/her area of expertise. The applicant is expected to establish a competitive research program involving undergraduate and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) students and to pursue and obtain extramural funding. The Department of Chemistry is ACS-accredited, with currently 13 tenured or tenure-track faculty actively engaged in research involving undergraduate and graduate students. The department also has three full-time Ph.D. lecturers and two Ph.D. professional staff, overseeing general chemistry and department instrumentation and many researchers at the Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute as affiliated faculty. The department enrolls undergraduates in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and graduate students in Clinical and Bioanalytical Chemistry. Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field; post-doctoral or equivalent research experience in qualifying fields. Evidence for being able to establish an independent, externally-funded research program; and the ability to teach organic chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related area. A record of publication in appropriate peer-reviewed journals, experience/success in obtaining grants; good communication and interpersonal skills; evidence of ability to contribute through teaching and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community; potential to collaborate with PIs in the department, university, and community partnerships at the Cleveland Clinic/CWRU. Research in one or more of the following, or related, areas: organic synthesis, chemical biology, polymer chemistry, nanomaterials, and/or computational chemistry, but not limited to these areas. Demonstrated success in obtaining extramural funding. and documented teaching experience/excellence in teaching undergraduate chemistry courses and graduate courses in organic chemistry.
