Applications are invited for two postdoctoral positions in the laboratory of Prof. Subhasis Ghoshal at the Department of Civil Engineering at McGill University to conduct research on the development and application of nanomaterials for water treatment and in situ remediation of aquifers; and on investigating nano-bio interactions towards a better understanding of ecotoxicity and environmental fate of nanomaterials.
The positions are available immediately. Review of applications will continue until the positions are filled. The preferred start date is April 2022, but there is some flexibility. The initial appointment will be for one year with possibility for extension for an additional year. Candidates should have completed their Ph.D. no more than 3 years prior to the date of joining.
Successful candidates will have an outstanding record of scholarship and doctoral/postdoctoral research related to the areas of research described below. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Candidates will be expected to assist in the training of graduate and undergraduate students, and preparation of research proposals and journal papers. Candidates should be able to work independently and as part of a team with collaborators on interdisciplinary projects. A Ph.D. in environmental, materials or chemical engineering, chemistry or a relevant field is required.
Position 1: Nano-bio interactions in Soil and Water Environments
The position involves research on transformation of incidental and engineered nanomaterials in soil/aquatic environments and model (micro)organisms/plants in those environments. Hands on experience with Raman Spectroscopy (particularly Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy and Tip-enhanced Raman Spectroscopy/AFM-Raman) is required.
Position 2: Nanomaterials for Water Treatment
The position involves research on rational design of iron-based composite nanomaterials with high reactivity to halogenated pollutants for applications in water treatment and in situ groundwater remediation. Relevant research experience related to synthesis and applications of iron-based composite nanomaterials is required. Experience in analyses of emerging halogenated organic contaminants is desirable.
Applications should include:
(i) A cover letter detailing the candidate’s experience and knowledge relevant to the position (please identify area 1 or 2);
(ii) a detailed curriculum vitae with list of publications;
(iii) copies of two most relevant publications;
(iv) contact information for two references.
Applications should be sent to [email protected]
