Postdoctoral Position in Piezoelectric Nanomaterials and Composites

ENG Chemical&MaterialsEngineer Competition No. - A100146698
Closing Date - Will remain open until filled.

2D Nanomaterials exhibit unique properties not observed at the bulk scale, including, in some cases, piezoelectric properties. In the Elias research group, we are interested in harnessing the properties of these materials in order to develop printable electronic sensors. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team. This individual will be responsible for synthesizing and characterizing printable inks based on 2D nanomaterials, using these inks to fabricate sensors that can detect physical stimuli such as vibrations, and characterizing the behavior of these sensors. This work is supported by the extensive facilities available at the University of Alberta, including a Class 100 cleanroom in the U of A Nanofab. The successful candidate will receive training in the fabrication and characterization equipment required for their work.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. Experience in nanoparticle synthesis and characterization is required; skills in printable electronics and piezoelectric materials would be an asset. As this is a position for a Postdoctoral Fellow, a Ph.D. must have been awarded in the past three years. Applicants who are scheduled to defend their thesis by the end of February 2022 are also invited to apply. The selected candidate should have the ability to work both independently and within a team. Strong communication skills are desired.

To Apply:
Send a cover letter, a CV, and one first-author journal publication to Dr. Anastasia Elias. Please mention ‘Piezoelectric Nanomaterials and Composites’ in the subject line.

Term: 2 years

We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted.

COVID-19 Vaccination: Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 in compliance with the University’s COVID-19 Vaccination Directive. Fully Vaccinated means a status an individual achieves 14 days after having received the recommended number of doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization, and requires the individual to maintain the recommended number and type of vaccine doses as updated and required by Health Canada thereafter.

How to Apply

Note: Online applications are accepted until midnight Mountain Standard Time of the closing date.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. If suitable Canadian citizens or permanent residents cannot be found, other individuals will be considered. The University of Alberta is committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workforce. We welcome applications from all qualified persons. We encourage women; First Nations, Métis and Inuit persons; members of visible minority groups; persons with disabilities; persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity and expression; and all those who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas and the University to apply.
