This position is needed for PI John Bischof to delegate lab management responsibilities and address immediate effort concerns. Due to the large number of projects underway (12 existing projects) and ATP-Bio ERC, a dedicated lab manager is needed to ensure compliance on daily operations and research outputs. Since mid-June, three key members of the current research team (two post-docs and a researcher) have given notice to end their appointments. Their departure will greatly impact the work being done on funded research programs if adjustments are not made. This role will provide professional research, technical and administrative support that is being done by other members of the team who are in more research focused roles. Given the direction of the various labs, the hiring of a dedicated lab manager will allow researchers to focus their efforts more solely on research priorities. This new position will take on additional responsibilities in order to support both CSE and the Medical School.
About the Job The Bioheat and Mass Transfer Lab (BHMT, https://sites.google.com/a/umn.edu/bhmt/home), led by Professor Bischof, is seeking an experienced lab manager to support multiple research areas, including biopreservation, (cancer) thermal therapies, diagnostics, and nanomedicine. The BHMT lab also operates within the NSF Engineering Research Center for Advanced Technologies for the Preservation of Biological Systems (ATP-Bio, where Professor Bischof serves as Director) which was awarded this year and will provide funding for at least 5 years (atp-bio.org). The goal of the Center is to pursue scientific knowledge, technologies, and clinical and laboratory capabilities to store and globally distribute living tissues, organs, and organisms for transplantation and regenerative medicine, biomedical research, conservation of species, and sustainable food sources. This position will include extensive collaboration across a number of institutions and industrial partners through ATP-Bio and the Institute for Engineering Medicine, where Professor Bischof also serves as Director.
