About the Role
The Research Associate will contribute to the research effort of the Future Industries Institute (FII). In particular, the research is concerned with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Ideas grant titled ‘Development of a diagnostic platform for preventative wound management’, which is focussed on the development of a simple blood-based diagnostic/prognostic point-of-care device that will provide an early indication of wound risk for people living with diabetes.

Core Responsibilities
Conduct high-quality research project, under limited supervision and in collaboration with other University and clinical stakeholders Design and perform experiments to develop a diagnostic/prognostic point-of-care device for monitoring a specific wound biomarker in human blood samples Prepare or contribute to the preparation of refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research project Provide advice to postgraduate students, internship students and visiting students in the appointee’s area of expertise Active involvement in professional activities including, subject to the availability of funds, attendance at conferences, and seminars
Essential Skills and Experience
A Doctoral qualification in analytical chemistry or chemical engineering or related discipline Demonstrated expertise in microfluidics, including engineering aspects for design and modification of the miniaturised immunoassays Demonstrated skills and experience in materials science and materials characterisation (SEM, TEM, X-ray diffraction, XPS, gas physisorption analysis, etc) Demonstrated expertise in analysis of biomolecules by LC-MS techniques A record of peer reviewed publications and conference presentations commensurate with opportunity
