Senior Advanced Materials Engineer

Position Overview:



The focus of this specialized, technically oriented position is on meeting and exceeding high standards of accuracy and quality based on established systems, technologies, and guidelines. Streng in technical problem solving based on expertise and experience, and a strong commitment to efficiently achieve high quality results is required. A thoughtful, persevering, self-disciplined approach to achieving accurate, detailed work is essential. Job responsibilities and expectations are clearly defined, as is the scope of job authority. A key aspect of the job includes the ongoing identification of technical problems and the development of sound, carefully thought-out solutions.


Because of the expertise developed in this position, it is necessary to regularly initiate and communicate viewpoints on problems and opportunities in a factual, straightforward manner. This job allows for autonomy and independence, and is primarily self-reliant. There is a need for someone who will assure that all team members meet or exceed technical standards of quality and accuracy. Because of the fast paced job environment, decisions must be made quickly and firmly, within the defined scope of job authority and based on job expertise. In general, this is a valued expert expected to deliver high quality, accurate results, while efficiently maintaining and enhancing existing organizational systems and standards.


Job Responsibilities:



Work independently with minimum supervision. Possibly lead 1-2 technicians Effectively manage open-ended tasks and complex product development projects Make data driven decisions, develop and diligently pursue risk management plans Make effective reports to R&D director, CTO and company with timely updates of progress and risks as they develop Interface with vendors and service providers to prove processes and align suppliers for scale-up to manufacture. Practice diligence in design documentation and product qualification Work in a SCRUM/Agile environment Design and assembly of production and test equipment as needed Formulation, compounding, processing for polymer composite materials including EMI and thermal interface materials Characterizations of raw materials as well as finished products Recording and documenting testing procedures and data analysis Assessing prototypes based on testing results and recommending design changes to engineers

Job Requirements:


BS (MS preferred) in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field 5+ years in an industry R&D role. Experience with Polymer Science is preferred Demonstrated success in bringing innovative technology to market Relevant experience in the application of filler technology for products development Relevant experience in the application of polymers (resins, elastomers, plastics) for polymer composite products or technologies Relevant experience in design for formulation, dispersion, compounding, and other manufacturing processes like extrusion, coating, laminating, molding, calendaring Relevant experience in integration of nano / micro materials in polymers Desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment where your success may be critical path to the company achieving its goals Must be able to perform repetitive tasks while standing or sitting Ability to lift 30 pounds Self-motivated and self-directed Proficiency with Microsoft office and statistic software like JMP, minitab Practice company safety and 5S protocols

In addition to regular PTO, our entire organization takes 11 national holidays and a company holiday period from December 24th to January 1st each year.
