Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is currently seeking a talented and innovative Senior/Principal Scientist to join the Material and Analytical Sciences department (MAS). This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in development projects on analysis of New Chemical Entities (NCEs), peptides, and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). The scientist will be an integral member of the Material Sciences (MS) group within MAS, serve on multidisciplinary global project teams/sub-teams and be responsible for proposing strategies to achieve the teams’ goals and objectives.


Duties and Responsibilities


Independently designs and performs experiments to analyze materials of NCEs, peptides, and ATMPs with predefined goals. Evaluates, proposes, and develops new analytical methodologies/technologies in support of projects for diverse therapeutic modalities and nano-scale materials in formulations or biological matrices. Applies advanced modeling to data processing and predictive tool development. Work closely with cross-functional areas of the company, leverage external consultants and internal subject-matter experts, and establish new internal and external collaborations. Functions as a recognized and reliable resource in his/her field of expertise within and outside MAS. Prepares technical reports, publications, and oral presentations for timely and effective communications within the company as well as in broader scientific communities.

Principal Scientist Requirements


A Ph.D. in Analytical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences or related fields with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. Five or more years of pharmaceutical industry and/or academic postdoctoral fellowship experience in above mentioned fields.

Senior Scientist Requirements


A Ph.D. in Analytical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences or related fields. Preferred two (2) or more years of pharmaceutical industry and/or academic postdoctoral fellowship experience in above mentioned fields.

Requirements for both levels


Experience in and extensive knowledge of optical microscopy (polarized light, differential interference contrast, and phase contrast), fluorescence microscopy, and other imaging techniques. Experience and technical background in data processing, advanced statistical modeling, and predictive tool development. Working knowledge of NCEs, peptides, and/or ATMPs. Broad understanding of injectable formulations for diverse therapeutic modalities, and freeze-thaw and lyonization processes for biological samples. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals. Strong motivation to explore new technologies and concepts.
