Scientist - HIV/AIDS Vaccine Research

Overview: ORAU has a job opportunity for a Scientist in support of the overall functions of the Virology Core. The position is contingent on award of an upcoming contract with NIAID Professional, Scientific and Technical Support Services. Salary for position will be determined based on education and experience. Relocation support is not available for this position.

Responsibilities: Perform a wide range of complex procedures and techniques (may include, but are not limited to: cell culture, protein purification, X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microcopy, structure based design of immunogens, biophysical characterization of proteins and protein complexes, B cell sorting using flow cytometry etc.)Conduct independent research under the guidance of the Chief, including planning, conducting of experiments, data analysis, and peer reviewed publication of data.Calibrate and operate a variety of laboratory instruments under GLP guidelines and following Standard Operating Procedures to perform test, analyses, and other procedures.Assist in generation and evaluation of results in research associated with NIH’s development of an HIV/AIDS vaccine.Provide advice, input on molecular design of vaccine and antibody constructs (AAV, novel approaches to DNA, Flu HA-Ferritin, IgG antibodies, bispecific antibodies, MVA, rAds etc).Serve as a structural expert providing advice on how atomic level information can be applied to vaccine development antibody improvement.Provide scientific level advice on nano-scale design of vaccine immunogens.Interact with scientists from other organizations or institutions involved in similar or related research projects.Interact with students, post-doctoral fellows and non-doctoral research technicians on experimental design and laboratory-based methodologiesDesign experimental approaches, provide critical evaluation of scientific data, mentors scientific staff and collaborates with other scientistsLead special project activities under guidance of the Chief with particular emphasis on coordinated research efforts among VRC, NIAID, NIH and private, non-governmental organizations.
Qualifications: PhD in a related field is required.Minimum of three (3) years of related experience is required.
