About The Site

The Waltham R&D site is home to our small-molecule oncology research in North America, and is situated within a biopharma cluster of academic research institutions, medical centers, pharmaceutical companies and biotech startups. The Boston region is consistently ranked #1 globally for biotech research, investment, talent recruitment and lab space.


The campus, also known as the Boston BioHub, is one of the largest and most dynamic life-science research hubs in the region. It is home to more than 800 scientists and experts working in nine different pharmaceutical and biotech companies. The site is also home to the AstraZeneca Incubator, a program that helps emerging companies advance novel and innovative healthcare solutions to meet the needs of patients. The Oncology Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department provides ADME/DMPK, as well as translational PKPD Modeling & Simulation support to our portfolio. Our team is growing, and we have an opportunity as a Senior Scientist that will play a pivotal role in helping us to direct our capabilities toward improving patients’ lives.


The Oncology Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics department provides ADME/DMPK, as well as translational PKPD modeling & simulation support to our portfolio. We are looking for an individual who has a passion for ADME and DMPK science, applied to Cancer biology.


As a Senior Scientist, you will provide drug discovery and development support for our diverse portfolio including; small molecules, biologics, ADCs, nano-medicines and PROTACs. The qualified candidate will work closely with our established ADME teams in Boston (US) and Cambridge (UK) to analyze and interpret data which will be presented in a multidisciplinary team environment.


The role holder will contribute to ADME/DMPK by:


Independently designing and executing studies, analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting findings back to project teams. Developing and implementing state-of-the-art technologies in the field of drug metabolism. Supporting the department’s leadership team in both the strategic vision for the department and in the efficient and progressive running of the department. Providing disciplinary scientific leadership and presenting work through patents, publications and lectures. Potentially functioning as a project team representative.

Minimum Requirements in Education, Skills and Experience


PhD or equivalent degree in pharmaceutical sciences, molecular biology or related discipline. At least 3+ years of relevant hands-on industry experience in ADME for PhDs; or for candidates with an MS degree at least 7+ years of relevant industry experience. Ability to conduct cell culture experiments and work with primary cells. Experience investigating the fate of molecules in the beyond rule-of-5 property space is highly desirable. Knowledge of bioanalysis within ADME/DMPK. Trouble-shooting skills for assays and instrumentation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
