Engineer - Spin-Stand - Entry Level

About our group:

The Device Physics Pillar within the Seagate Research Group (SRG) consists of the Joint HAMR Lab (JHL) and the Advanced Recording group. The Advanced Recording group is responsible for performing high ADC spin-stand testing and provides modeling feedback to groups across the company in order to guide transducer level and drive level design for advanced HDD products. This position will report to the Device Physics Pillar Lead. This position will be responsible for performing spin-stand testing and characterization of advanced HDD components and system architectures in support of Seagate’s HAMR roadmap.


About the role - you will: Use spin stands to provide expert lab-level characterization of advanced recording components and system architectures. Provide insight into areal density limiters and recording physics, and communicate this learning to engineering and executive teams from all over the company. Work closely with the modeling team to design experiments and modeling exercises that elucidate recording physics phenomena. Write software to develop novel test methods. Contribute to Seagate’s IP portfolio in the form of invention disclosures, patents, trade secrets, peer-reviewed journal articles, and/or white papers, as well as participation in academic conferences. About you: PhD degree in an engineering or scientific discipline with 0-2 years of experience. Expertise in nano device physics including magnetics, optics, plasmonics, and device physics. A working knowledge of communication systems, signal processing, RF signal transmission. Expertise in thin film materials characterization techniques and other forms of nano-device metrology and testing Experience in programming languages (Python) You must be able to manage multiple tasks concurrently. You must be able to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of engineers and technicians. You have demonstrated innovation and are a self-motivated worker. You have an intense desire to learn. You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience in programming languages (Python) Location:
