Job Summary/Basic Function Job Summary:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in design, manufacturing, optimization, or other fields of mechanical or aerospace engineering. Candidates with interest and expertise in, but not limited to, micro- and nano-system engineering, computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, modeling and simulation, advanced manufacturing, and energy engineering, are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates are expected to
(1) excel in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses,
(2) direct master and doctoral theses,
(3) achieve in quality publications through funded research projects, and
(4) participate in departmental, college, and university service.
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience) Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. degree from an accredited college/university in mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Those with industry experience and/or prior teaching experience are preferred. A strong record of research and publications is desired.

This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.

About the Department and University:

Lamar’s undergraduate mechanical engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org/. The department has approximately 400 students. The department offers both Bachelor and Master of Science in Engineering degrees as well as Doctor of Engineering degree. Lamar University, located in Beaumont, TX, is a public university and part of the Texas State University System. The university has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, with enrollment steadily increasing to more than 17,000. The metropolitan Beaumont area is located 85 miles east of Houston and has a population of 120,000. The strong local oil and gas industry serves as the primary economic engine of the region and has a global impact.
