Research Associate in Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Virginia is seeking two Research Associates in the laboratory of Professor Mool C. Gupta.


Position #1: The successful candidate will perform experimental studies aimed at laser ablation of thin coatings and characterization of coatings and ablated surfaces. A background in laser applications and materials science is preferred. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to collaborate with researchers in a small company.


Position #2: The successful candidate will perform experimental studies related to laser sintering of nano/micro particles for the fabrication of thin films for photonic device applications. A background in laser applications and materials science is preferred. The candidate will work with current graduate students, collect data, follow the scientific literature, and will publish research results.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: a Ph.D. in Physics or Electrical & Computer Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering or related field is required by the start date. Experience in lasers, material processing, and characterization is preferred.

This is a six-month appointment that will end on July 31, 2022 ; however, the appointment may be renewed for two additional one-year terms, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
