Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 -
Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments.
Job Duty 2 -
Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records.

Setup laboratory media/equipment for demonstrations.

May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment.

Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests.

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma
Required Experience
Up to two years of job related experience
Preferred Qualifications A four-year college or university degree with a major in biology, biochemistry, biomedical or other related scientific field with one/two years of research laboratory experience Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills Willingness to learn new techniques, self-motivated, well organized, and able to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment Ability to follow written experimental protocols Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge in the use of instrumentation and other lab equipment, laboratory processes and procedures specific to assigned lab. Skills in inventory management and the use of specialized computer applications is required.

A research lab technician position is available in Biomedical Microsystems Laboratory to help processing clinical samples of circulating tumor cells-related cancer studies. The research focus of the lab is at the interface of nano-/micro-engineering and biomedicine. This position will provide training opportunities in developing N/MEMS-based technologies for biomedical research and health care. Building upon the training received from designee, the technician will be responsible for testing blood samples using microfluidic platforms for detecting rare circulating tumor cells in clinical samples, including analyzing experimental results using fluorescence microscopy.
