Neurodegenerative diseases are one of the largest medical challenges of our time. Denali Therapeutics is a biotechnology company based in South San Francisco, California that is dedicated to defeating neurodegenerative diseases through rigorous therapeutic discovery and development. Denali is founded on the collaboration of leading scientists, industry experts, and investors who share the vision that scientific discovery energetically applied to translational medicine is the key to delivering effective therapies to patients.
The Opportunity
Denali is continuing to build a leading, innovative Small Molecule Discovery Chemistry organization that will strongly contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases. We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Scientist / Senior Scientist in Protein Biochemistry to provide strategic and technical leadership to small molecule therapeutic protein discovery projects. The successful candidate will design and characterize small molecule protein targets using biochemical, and biophysical tools to drive lead selection and optimization.
Responsibilities
Independently design and lead protein biochemical and & biophysical studies activities within cross-functional project teams to enable structure-based drug design Hands-on participation in identifying efficient approaches to express and purify proteins including solving challenging protein purifications Support efforts to gain structural and mechanistic insights on novel protein targets by developing, optimize and performing in-depth biochemical/biophysical analytical assays on novel proteins using structural and mechanistic insights to support new and existing targets Contribute to the selection and oversight of contract research organizations (CROs) to support Protein Science activities including biochemical assays on multiple protein targets
Requirements
PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or related disciplines plus a minimum of 3-5 years prior drug discovery experience in the biotech/biopharma industry or BS/MS with a minimum of 8- 10+ years of experience Strong background in recombinant protein production, protein purification and chromatography techniques with a desire to understand underlying biology and mechanism of targets Deep understanding of analytical approaches to interrogate proteins (including CE, HPLC, SEC-MALS, DLS) as well as emerging technologies. Candidates with expertise in enabling structural studies of providing structural solutions for protein-protein complexes and/or membrane proteins are preferred complexes Experience with protein: ligand and compound binding mechanistic studies is desired (e.g., SPR, GCI, Nano DSF, FP; including target protein conjugation). Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other scientists on cross-functional projects teams Experience working with multiple protein targets, both hands-on and coordinating with CROs/academic partners. Excellent oral and written communication skills Motivated, scientifically driven individual with a creative approach to complex biochemical problem solving
