Position Summary:

The Zoetis pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, metabolism group (PDM) is recruiting a talented scientist to join our team to discover novel therapeutics for veterinary medicine. This position will require a highly motivated and independent scientist who can effectively collaborate with other team members to advance projects. Specifically, we are looking for a scientist to join our PDM team focusing on the quantification of small molecule and large molecule therapeutics and the development of biomarker assays.

Responsibilities:

Independent hands-on development and fit-for-purpose qualification of LC-MS methods to quantify small molecule and large molecule therapeutics and biomarkers in biological matrices such as serum, tissue, and cell culture. Implement appropriate separation and detection strategies to support drug discovery/development programs. Work with project teams and study directors to provide assay support to studies within agreed upon timelines. Prepare reports and present results to scientific teams and management. Participate/lead continuous improvement and innovation efforts within the PDM bioanalytical group.

Basic Qualifications:

Ph.D (0 - 2 years of relevant experience), M.S. (with 3+ years of relevant experience), or B.S. (with 5+ years of relevant experience) in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field, with hands-on experience using mass spectrometry techniques to characterize and quantify small and large molecule therapeutics and biomarkers. Exhibits enthusiasm for analytical chemistry and has a high degree of attention to detail. Ability to work effectively as both an individual contributor and in a collaborative team setting. Track record of successfully troubleshooting issues that arise during bioanalytical assay development, qualification, validation, and sample analysis. Understanding of quality expectations and regulatory guidance around LC-MS therapeutic and fit-for-purpose (FFP) biomarker assay development and validation. Demonstrated ability to develop, optimize, and FFP validate LC-MS methods for quantitative analysis of analytes in biological matrices (serum, tissue, cell culture). Experience with the proper handling and storage of therapeutic and biomarker biological samples and associated critical reagents. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desired Skill Sets:

Experience with the operation and maintenance of Sciex, Waters, and/or Thermo triple quadrupole mass spectrometers. Experience with the operation and maintenance of Thermo, Waters, and/or Bruker high resolution mass spectrometry platforms Experience with small molecule extraction techniques and basic/advanced large molecule extraction techniques for both biological fluid and tissue matrixes. Familiarity and experience with hybrid-LBA-LCMS assay workflows. Experience with laboratory automation for sample extraction workflows. Experience with conventional-flow and low-flow (nano, capillary) chromatography equipment including use of multiple inline columns to enrich and separate analytes of interest. Familiarity with ligand binding assays (e.g. ELISAs) on various platforms such as MSD or Gyrolab. Familiarity with characterization of proteins (e.g. gel electrophoresis, HPLC-size exclusion chromatography, etc.) Experienced with LIMS and PK software, such as Watson, and others.
