Codiak BioSciences is a leader in the emerging field of exosomes and extracellular vesicles where we are creating a new biological platform for the delivery of drugs. These exosomes are natural nano-scale vesicles that can be loaded with different therapeutic payloads. As part of the Codiak, Chemistry, Manufacturing & Controls (CMC) team, analytical development is responsible for: 1) the routine analysis of key platform assays to support process development, and 2) the development of novel assays to interrogate exosomes.
Codiak BioSciences Analytical Development team is currently seeking an undergraduate student or graduate student Co-op to assist in the development, characterization, implementation of assay development for exosomes. The Co-op will focus on platform Codiak methods such as, ELISA, BCA, HPLC, DLS and NTA. The Co-op will also learn Mass Spectrometry (MS) from an experienced LC-MS Scientist, including proteomics, lipidomics, small molecule quantitation in biological matrix, and characterization of payload (ASOs, small molecules). This is a unique and exciting opportunity to contribute both experimentally and intellectually to an emerging field of science. The co-op will contribute to an emerging novel modality with the leader in exosomes.
The Co-op will learn these skills during the 6-month term.
Characterization and quantitation of exosomes with particle-based measurements Characterization and quantitation of payloads on exosomes (ASOs, small molecules, biologics) Developing novel methodology for titer measurements of exosomes including work with a new analytical platform Develop novel LC-MS lipidomic assay for the characterization of exosome lipid membranes Learn about FDA regulations and analytical development contributions to IND Employing experimental design to effectively assess hypothesis Successful projects will be presented by the Co-op with the broader team giving the co-op exposure to the larger CMC team . Requirements:
Education: Currently in 3rd year of undergraduate study or in graduate study, pursuing a degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering, molecular biology, pharmaceutical sciences, or equivalent degree science/engineering degree.
Experience:
Previous co-op experience in industry or internship in an academic research lab is preferred. Familiarity with some of the methodologies listed: ELISA, BCA, HPLC, DLS, Mass-Spec and NTA. The ability to record and interpret scientific data. Excellent learning and communication skills, and the aptitude to work both in a team environment and independently under suitable guidance. Passionate about scientific discovery, self-motivated, and eager to learn new skills and contribute to the success of the organization. Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
