Duties and Responsibilities The new faculty member will be expected to contribute to excellence in undergraduate and potentially graduate teaching in the Mechanical Engineering Technology programs, perform scholarly and outreach activities, and provide service to the university, state, and profession. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate students, participation in curriculum development, participation in accreditation activities and committee assignments. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills 1. Masters (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering Technology or closely related field. 2. Record of relevant industrial experience. 3. Ability to obtain Professional Engineering Licensure in the state of Montana. 4. Excellent communications skills. 5. Demonstrated ability to teach a wide variety of courses within the mechanical engineering spectrum (such as; advanced manufacturing processes, automation, mechatronics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, design for manufacturability and alternative energy applications).
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills 1. Substantial work experience providing a breadth of expertise in the Mechanical Engineering or mechanical engineering technology field.
2. Demonstrated ability to engage a diverse student body and colleagues.
3. Demonstrated ability to develop advanced coursework in the mechanical engineering field.

The Program
The Department The M&IE Department offers ABET accredited BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology and Industrial & Management Systems Engineering. A degree in Financial Engineering is also available. Graduate offerings include MS degrees in Industrial & Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and a Ph.D. degree in Engineering with options in Industrial Engineering, Applied Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering. The Department is strong in both traditional and emerging areas of each discipline, with substantial laboratory facilities supporting instructional and research missions. Available to M&IE Department faculty are collaborations with a wide variety of MSU research centers. Examples include Center for Biofilm Engineering, Center for Bio-Inspired Nano-Materials, Center for Health and Safety Culture, Energy Research Institute, Imaging and Chemical Analysis Laboratory, Magnetic Resonance Lab, Montana Engineering Education Research Center, Montana Institute on Ecosystems, Montana Manufacturing Extension Center, Montana Microfabrication Facility, Subzero Science and Engineering Research Facility, Thermal Biology Institute, Western Transportation Institute, and Wind Application Center.
The College The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering comprises five academic departments – Chemical & Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Gianforte School of Computing, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, and is home to Army and Air Force ROTC Units. The College enrolls approximately 3,700 students with more than 200 studying in graduate degree programs. Doctoral degree programs include Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Materials Science. Further, the college offers a Ph.D. in Engineering with options in Applied Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
With a wide array of research programs in progress, MSU engineering faculty and students have garnered an impressive number of awards. In recent years, MSU engineering students have been recognized with a number of prestigious awards, including Rhodes Scholarships, a Marshall Fellowship, a Gates-Cambridge Fellowship, as well as Goldwater scholarships and NSF Graduate Research Fellowships. The Norm Asbjornson Hall (NAH) was completed in Fall 2018 and this innovative facility has transformed engineering education and scholarly activity at MSU.
