The Electron Microscopy business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries, improve materials, and ultimately change the world. The Materials and Structural Analysis Division designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.


Combining hardware and software expertise in electron, ion, and light microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets, the worldwide Electron Microscopy employees enable customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.


How will you make an impact?


The Field Service Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, alignment and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. Engineers investigate and approve operational quality of system equipment; advise customers in the operation and maintenance of the system; serve as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; and conduct on-site installations of the full range electron microscopy systems and their associated options.


As a Field Service Engineer you will join a diverse team of engineers. This position will challenge your skills and offers opportunity to perform on sophisticated computer networks, precision mechanics, high vacuum systems, and electron optics.

What will you do?


Conduct on-site installation across the region Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with users and colleagues Complete technical training, as required Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems Advise customers, manufacturing and internal customers thru effective communication Improve customer experience by providing timely preventative maintenance Partner with colleagues to acquire knowledge via technical mentorship Raise awareness of workflow inefficiency with product quality teams and global tech support Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting documentation Align with application scientists to collaborate on outstanding solutions to meet our users challenges

Minimum Qualifications:


University Engineering Degree or equivalent combination of technical education and experience in sophisticated systems Prior experience using SEM, TEM, FIB or similar systems Ability to partner effectively with customers Excellent interpersonal skills; must have a professional working proficiency in English High level of proficiency on Windows software, network knowledge, current computer hardware Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required Must possess a valid driver’s license Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Able to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities, if required Position may require Covid-19 vaccination and/or routine testing, per client discretion. As a requirement to be onsite at Thermo Fisher Scientific this position requires vaccination status disclosure upon employment.
