Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):
The successful candidate would work in the Micro and Nano Optics (MNO) research department of the Science and Technology Division. MNO combines deep understanding of display, light sources, and sensing systems with fundamental research in structured materials to develop new advantaged optical products. We seek out scientists with experience in optical design, fabrication, or characterization. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to combine fundamental optical physics principles to demonstrate novel optical components, imaging or display systems, or metrology. As part of Corning Global Research we leverage world-class expertise and capabilities in optical metrology, material finishing, and replication in our 2,000,000 ft2 laboratory in upstate New York and our research centers across the globe. From consumer electronics to semiconductor lithography to quantum communications, MNO’s scientists understand our customer’s needs, translate those needs into hypotheses, and execute the design, modeling, and experiments required to test those hypotheses.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Develop structured optical component for display, consumer electronics, photonics, or other emerging technology areas Model, design, and measure optical structures that produce desired refractive, diffractive, or scattering properties Work closely with scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop and execute experiment plans Build subject matter expertise in optics, materials, and fabrication disciplines; consult with commercial peers in various business units Document knowledge in formal and informal reports
Travel requirements (please note if international): < 5% travel expected
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
40 hours/week, 8am-5pm, with flexibility

Demonstrated working knowledge of optics and optical properties of materials
-Practical experience in experimental optics -Deep technical understanding of light-matter interactions
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills Excellent oral and written communication skills
Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)
Required education and experience: Enrolled in a MSc or PhD program in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or other relevant field
