Duties and Responsibilities The new faculty member will be expected to contribute to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching in the Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department, and conduct nationally-recognized externally-funded scholarly work in an emerging area of industrial or systems engineering research that affords collaboration with other MSU researchers, such as: sustainability, cybersecurity, autonomous and connected vehicles, financial engineering, healthcare, or user-centered design/usability engineering or related field as appropriate. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participation in accreditation activities and committee assignments, and service to the university, state, and profession. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills PhD in Industrial Engineering or closely related field by date of hire. Excellent potential for nationally recognized, externally funded research. Research interests that complement current research directions within the College of Engineering or in an emerging area of national interest. Exceptional potential for effective undergraduate and graduate teaching in M&IE. Record of peer-reviewed and/or other scholarly publications.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Demonstrated ability to engage a diverse student body and colleagues. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching. Industry, academic or professional experience. Research program experience that complements or expands current departmental or college research programs.

The Program
The Department The M&IE Department offers ABET accredited BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology and Industrial & Management Systems Engineering. A degree in Financial Engineering is also available. Graduate offerings include MS degrees in Industrial & Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and a Ph.D. degree in Engineering with options in Industrial Engineering, Applied Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering. The Department is strong in both traditional and emerging areas of each discipline, with substantial laboratory facilities supporting instructional and research missions. Available to M&IE Department faculty are collaborations with MSU’s Energy Research Institute, Center for Biofilm Engineering, Imaging and Chemical Analysis Laboratory, Magnetic Resonance Lab, Subzero Science and Engineering Research Facility, Montana Microfabrication Facility, Western Transportation Institute, Wind Application Center, Montana Manufacturing Extension Center, Thermal Biology Institute, and Center for Bio-Inspired Nano-Materials.
The College The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering comprises five academic departments – Chemical & Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Gianforte School of Computing, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, and is home to Army and Air Force ROTC Units. The College enrolls approximately 3,700 students with more than 200 studying in graduate degree programs. Doctoral degree programs include Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Materials Science. Further, the college offers a Ph.D. in Engineering with options in Applied Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
With a wide array of research programs in progress, MSU engineering faculty and students have garnered an impressive number of awards. In recent years, MSU engineering students have been recognized with a number of prestigious awards, including Rhodes Scholarships, a Marshall Fellowship, a Gates-Cambridge Fellowship, as well as Goldwater scholarships and NSF Graduate Research Fellowships. The Norm Asbjornson Hall (NAH) was completed in Fall 2018 and this innovative facility has transformed engineering education and scholarly activity at MSU.
