COMPENSATION: Salary Exempt, Full Benefits, Performance Bonus and 403(B)


REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O) for Estrella Educational Foundation (EFF)


SUMMARY: The Headmaster will provide leadership for the planning, development, and implementation of a STEM2 approach to curricular design and data-driven instructional practices in a charter school high school learning environment. The Headmaster must be a visionary and advocate who has a full and clear understanding of the role and value that STEM2 (Science Technology Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) education can play in the lives of students, and its capacity to empower all students to develop the critical and creative thinking skills required to succeed in college, private sector, and the global marketplace of the 21st century. The Headmaster supports teachers in designing and delivering STEM2 instruction that is consistently ambitious and strengthens all students’ ability to engage in STEM2 content as critical thinkers, innovators and problem solvers. The Headmaster is responsible for identifying professional development needs and supporting the staff in the implementation of the instruction and programming which ensures that all students master Common Core State Standards, International Benchmarks, Next Generation Science Standards and 21st Century Technical Skills which focus on professions that require a significant level of STEM2 knowledge and skills. The Headmaster will be under the direct supervision of the Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O) for Estrella Educational Foundation for the implementation of EEF approved programs and procedures.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


Interview and recommend the teaching, clerical, support staff, nursing, and custodial staff based on qualifications, MIT handbooks, and EEF policies. Develops, implements, and monitors effective results-based marketing plans to show growth on a quarterly basis and understanding of incubation and feeder system. Actively recruits students to increase student enrollment. Understand and follow Arizona State Board for Charter Schools policies, statutes, rules and procedures. Recruit and assign selected staff to positions best suited for potential success. Visit the classroom or other work places frequently and systematically; record areas of strength and weaknesses of employees. Objectively evaluate staff according to the MIT teacher portfolio and schedule, and send written evaluation reports to the C.O.O of Estrella Educational Foundation to reflect a Pre-Evaluation and Post Evaluation. Provide written progress reports on detected areas of concern with each staff member on an ongoing basis. Alert staff to MIT newsletters, policies, and procedures through written staff bulletins and staff meetings, as needed. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, students, parents and the public. Supervise and assume responsibility for all school personnel in carrying out their responsibilities. Provide in-service to staff on job requirements and procedures on an ongoing basis and request assistance from partnership school district staff in areas in which specific expertise is needed. Inspect and review questionable and frequent illnesses and industrial injuries and alert staff when abuse is evident. Assign work responsibilities, inspect, and supervise the cleanliness and care of the school facility to ensure COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures are in place. Make thorough inspection of school facilities for compliance with fire, insurance, and health requirements. Assume the responsibility for school facility assigned, be available after hours in case of fire and severe vandalism and provide security for facilities and equipment to protect the interest of the partnered school district. Submit loss reports, self-inspection reports, etc., as scheduled. Assign staff to correct deficiencies detected on self-inspection and health department reports. Requisition building maintenance for items not covered by school custodians. Provide for storage, maintenance, and updating of Policy Handbooks, State Statutes, Departmental Procedures, and Curriculum Maps, and yearly review pertinent information contained in these documents with staff. Provide for school handbook; school calendar; staff bulletins; parent, staff, and student newsletters. Outline procedures for staff in-service and school personnel; inspect and assume full responsibility for accuracy in the registration of pupils, registers, attendance records, permanent record cards, confidential folders, inventory book, etc. Provide for the safe storage and management of all records and keep confidential all personnel and student records. Provide for the timely submission of reports, as scheduled. Enforce the prescribed goals, scope and sequence, objectives, and subject-area time allotments. Schedule students to regular and special classes. Provide for regular student assemblies to enrich the needs of the school and community. Require and review daily lesson plans of all instructional staff to determine coverage of common core standards, objectives, scope and sequence. Encourage and enforce homework policy. Review teachers’ record books for objective recording of student progress. Requisition supplies, materials, and textbooks to support program and effectively manage the school allocations provided. Evaluates student progress in the instructional program by means that include the maintaining of up-to-date student data. Review student and class achievement with each instructional staff member and alert staff to deficiencies and successes. Establish a high expectancy level achievement for all instructional programs and activities. Make recommendations for supplemental services for students and staff to increase all areas of achievement. Objectively assess overall student achievement and make recommendations to staff not meeting expectancy levels. Assume full responsibility for school achievement. Enforce District and MIT STEM HS policies on student promotion, retention, and state graduation requirements. Communicate the high expectancy level of discipline to staff and students. Plan and implement an effective student discipline program to guide consistent procedures for student discipline. Establish schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in classroom and non-classroom areas (including before and after school). Investigate reported misbehavior and provide due process for each individual student. Enforce the discipline procedure outlined by the MIT policies. Oversee discipline procedures to insure fair and equitable punishment. Review and make final recommendation for suspension, according to MIT school procedures. Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of students, employees and visitors. Work to establish a low percentage of absence of students and contact parents and take court action for attendance abusers, if necessary. Be available to parents and return parent calls to solve children/school problems. Establish and maintain an active Parent Organization with regularly scheduled meetings attended by teacher representatives. Provide the use of school facilities to community groups as per the MIT policy and procedures. Provides opportunities for parent and community forums to demonstrate the relevance of STEM2 education. Work with community groups to provide service to students needing assistance. Attend and participate in scheduled administrative meetings with partnered school district. Set the tone for appropriate dress for the school environment. Frequently review MIT and EEF policies and procedures to enable appropriate enforcement. Attend all EEF Board of Director meetings as required by the Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O) for Estrella Educational Foundation and be prepared to present innovative programs to Board of Directors. Provides activities that facilitate the professional growth of the school staff and enhance the quality of the instructional program. Provides direction and leadership in the development of a comprehensive STEM2 curriculum. Facilitates a short and long-term plan for the school to integrate the following STEM2 principles into the instructional program: Technology infusion; rigorous, project-based learning experiences; internationalized school-to-career connections for students; 21st Century Technical Skills. Maintains and ensures a consistent, rigorous and equitable educational experience in for all students in reading, math science and technology education. Ensures that teachers utilize curriculum documents (curriculum maps/pacing guides) that contain the core curriculum benchmarks, resources and common assessments that are aligned with the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. Provides instructional support to teachers using best practices and research-based instructional methods. Collaborates with universities, as well as state, national and local organizations to promote STEM2 education. Facilitates student participation in national and local STEM2/math/science/medical organizations and competitions. Ability to recognize areas of concern relating to STEM2 education issues and proposes or recommends appropriate solutions to problems. Assesses outcomes of programs, reflects and makes adjustments for continuous improvement of processes, systems, methods and student experience. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O) for Estrella Educational Foundation. Promotes and maintains positive and effective school climate by ensuring that all interactions with staff, students, parents, and the public at large are prompt, efficient, helpful, and friendly. Establishes and maintains professional and cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders; parents, students, staff, neighbors, and partners. Monitors Charter Holder (EEF) and Special Projects accountability timelines and coordinates timely completion of administrative/clerical tasks. Prepares annual performance audit in collaboration with CPA and as directed by the C.O.O. Organizes before school, extended day, after school, and summer school MIT STEM2 programs. Prepares and processes facility use agreement forms using Memorandum of Agreement and district procedures.

EDUCATION:


Advanced degree in education, educational administration, curriculum/instruction or a related area from an accredited college or university is required with a strong emphasis on technology integration and data-informed instruction that raises student achievement as measured by standardized test assessments.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:


A valid Arizona elementary and/or secondary teaching certificate, required A valid Arizona administrator’s certificate for Principal, required. Full SEI Endorsement, required ASA Highly Qualified Evaluator Training I & II, preferred A valid Arizona administrator’s certificate for Superintendent, preferred Math or Science background and/or certification/HQ, preferred Doctorate degree in education and/or a STEM2 field, preferred A valid Fingerprint Clearance Card, required

EXPERIENCE:


Experienced working in an advanced charter school environment, preferred. Advanced understanding of technology integrations, hardware, and software, preferred. Comprehensive understanding and experience in charter school budgeting and finance, preferred. Experience working with a diverse student, parent, and community population, preferred Experience working with advanced, gifted and college bound students, preferred. Experience working with English Language Learning students, preferred At least five (5) years of successful high school teaching experience, preferably in a STEM2-related area, preferred. A minimum of three (3) years administrative experience in a principal or assistant principal position in a high school environment, preferred

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:


Advanced technology expertise and experience, required Knowledge and experience in advanced technologies such as (preferred): Aligning all MIT STEM2 Instruction to Arizona Common Core State Standards 3D Printing Nano Technology and it application Coding and App Development Electron Microtopology Drone application and aeronautical engineering Intermediate and advanced Robotics Intermediate and advanced experience in chemistry, physics, and forensic science. Knowledge of structural and electrical engineering. Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, science or engineering, preferred Knowledge in purchasing and inventory control systems Experience with STEM2 education and knowledge of STEM2 integration throughout the curriculum, preferred Knowledge and experience promoting hands-on and project/problem based learning, preferred Organized, detail oriented, efficient worker Ability to work on multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately. WORKING CONDTIONS:


The working environment is fast paced, focused on student achievement, and revolves around positive staff and community. The working environment is primarily an office setting with some travel between partnered schools and school district.

TERMS OF EMPLOYEMENT:


Student achievement and student enrollment will be the major goal and focus of the school’s administration Twelve-month year, Administrative – Exempt Benefits include: health, dental, vision and 401(k) retirement package.
