Qualifications We Require PhD in mechanical engineering or a related science or engineering field or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience in advanced manufacturing, additive manufacturing, process science, or related fields Experience in the optimization of material systems and process parameters for multi-scale 3D printing Experience with printable devices that integrate multiple functionalities A proven track record of publishing original research in high impact journals and presenting at professional conferences Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire Experience with application of Data Science to Advanced Manufacturing Ability to conceptualize, design, fabricate and test additively manufactured devices using tools such as Nanoscribe, FDM, SLS, SLA, aerosol jet, and direct write extrusion printing for use in heterogeneous integration, micro optical devices, electronics packaging, non-planar electronics/power sources and metamaterials Experience in collaboration across fields with other internal organizations as well as academic and industrial collaborators Experience with multiphoton lithography materials and instrumentation Experience in circuit design and prototyping (eCAD), simulation software such as COMSOL, and opto-mechanical design and drawing (mCAD) Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as microreplication, embossing, flexography/gravure, screen printing, semiconductor manufacturing, and printed circuit boards Experience with materials characterization including optical and electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy Project execution ability for R&D activities, including project scheduling, reporting, and delivering results Proficiency with software programming and instrument control in languages such as Python, LabVIEW, and MATLAB Ability to work across fields, and to seek problems in a highly collaborative environment Strong self-motivation to work optimally as an independent contributor Proven communication and interpersonal skills as needed to work in a collaborative team About Our Team
The Advanced Materials Laboratory Department conducts research and development in a wide range of novel materials synthesis strategies and unique processing techniques to advance scientific understanding and provide practical solutions to the needs of a wide variety of Sandia customers and external entities. Specifically, activities in our research groups include; synthesizing new precursor chemistries and surface functional groups, understanding different routes to nano-scale particles and thin films, understanding the rheology of metal-particle inks and ceramic slurries, and investigating new catalyst materials and conducting mechanistic studies of catalysis. Processing research and development includes providing an advanced manufacturing capability using multiple platforms to deliver materials in a coherent design to topographically challenging substrates, electrospinning of fibers of vastly different compositions, and combining different materials and processing strategies to realize disruptive advances in a variety of application spaces. Our customers include all of Sandia's mission areas and numerous external collaborators. Our laboratory facilities are located at the Advanced Materials Laboratory, a leased facility on the campus of the University of New Mexico. This geographical advantage allows us to work closely with students and faculty at local community colleges and UNM, as well as universities throughout the United States.
Our team is committed to nurturing environment compatible with a broad group of people and perspectives in accordance with the changing makeup of the workforce. In support of this vision, our center actively recruits applicants from diverse groups of backgrounds and fosters an inclusive community.
Join us and work towards your goals while making a difference!
